The American Morgan Horse Association Young Adult Alliance (YAA), a group of 18- to 40-year-old amateur and professionals working together to strengthen the Morgan breed, are again offering a scholarship to amateur and professionals who are interested in attaining their "R" Morgan judging card. This is an opportunity for young adults to educate themselves on the show ring and develop professionally. The application deadline is Monday, August 15.
The scholarship of $1,500 will be paid out as tuition reimbursement upon successful completion of two judges schools and one learner judging position within a two-year period from December 31 of the year awarded, upon submission and approval of receipts for the monies.
Any professional or amateur, age 21-40, who has the intent of becoming a Morgan "R" judge may apply. Applicants are asked to submit a 500-word essay on the topic: "What I hope to learn from Morgan judging school and what I will contribute to the judging pool," along with one recommendation letter from a current "R" Morgan judge, a resume, and a completed application.
"This amazing experience of my journey to holding a judge's card has taught me so much about observing horse shows in a new light," said 2015 scholarship recipient, Melissa Morrell of West Brookfield, Massachusetts. "With one judge's school and one learner judge show under my belt, I am so grateful for the various seasoned veterans who have imparted their valuable knowledge to me along with positive encouragement. Thanks to the YAA scholarship, this has been possible."
