The grace period deadline to submit American Saddlebred Registry Futurity weanling payments and foal registration applications (for nominated weanlings showing at the 2017 World’s Championship Horse Show) is Friday, June 30, 2017. In order to maintain future eligibility, weanling payments for the Kentucky, Kentucky Amateur and National Three-Year-Old Futurities are due by the above deadline, even if a weanling is not showing this year. Payments must be postmarked by the US Postal Service, faxed to 859.259.1628 or emailed to p.edwards@asha.net on or before June 30. Nominated weanlings showing in the 2017 Kentucky and/or Kentucky Amateur Weanling Divisions must have applications for registration received in ASHA/ASR office by June 30. Applications received after June 30 and before July 8, will incur an additional $100 rush fee. No weanling will be allowed to show with a conditional registration number, which means DNA testing must be done promptly. It is very important for hair samples to be sent to the testing lab as soon as DNA kits are received so the lab has a sufficient amount of time to verify parentage and send results to our office. Download an application for registration from the ASR Forms page on the American Saddlebred Horse Association website. All ASR Futurity entries must be properly entered on entry forms provided by the Kentucky State Fair. Entry forms may be downloaded from the Kentucky State Fair website, www.kystatefair.org, online entries through www.horseshowsonline.com, or by calling the Horse Show Office at 502.367.5300 to receive a premium book with entry forms. For nominated horses entering the ring in an ASR Futurity class, a Declaration of Intent to Show form must be filed and the starting fee paid by 2 p.m. ET, on Saturday, August 19, 2017, to the ASR Futurity Secretary in the Horse Show Office. Failure to declare and pay the starting fee by the above deadline, will result in an added $500 penalty and must be paid before the last day of the competition. The added penalty does not apply to horses that have been properly scratched from a futurity class. Declarations will be mailed at the end of July to owners, trainers &/or agents of nominated horses that have been entered in ASR Futurity classes at the 2017 World’s Championship Horse Show. This year, a total of $34,515 from the Kentucky Breeders’ Incentive Fund will be offered in the ASR Kentucky Futurity Weanling Division and $138,060 will be offered in the ASR Four-Year-Old Sweepstakes classes. The top three highest placed Kentucky-breds will receive the added incentive funds with 70 percent awarded to the breeder and 30 percent to the stallion owner (at the time of service). To be eligible, a horse must be registered with ASR, foaled in Kentucky, sired by a stallion standing in Kentucky (at the time of service), and bred by a Kentucky resident. Eligible breeders and stallion owners must be current members of Kentucky Saddlebred Owners and Breeders Association (KSOBA) prior to the competition. The added incentive funds will be paid by the State of Kentucky sometime during the first quarter of 2018. In addition to ASR Futurity prize money, the Stallion Sweeps Committee is adding a $25,000 bonus, from the Stallion Sweeps Program, to the 2017 ASR Kentucky Futurity Yearling class. A total of $6,000 will be awarded to the winner, $4,000 to the reserve champion, and $2,500 each will be added to the third- through eighth-place ribbon winners.
