In the most recent American Saddlebred Registry board meeting, the attendees voted to pass to expansion of the Champion Sport Horse designation to include Half-Saddlebreds. The Champion Sport Horse Designation Program that was presented and developed by the ASHA Equine Welfare Advocacy Committed and passed this past July will be now be adapted by the ASR to also recognize registered Half-Saddlebreds.
In the strategic plan for the ASHA, EWAC is charged with promoting versatility for the breed. Given that many of the currently registered half Saddlebreds compete in sport horse divisions, the EWAC committee proposed that extending this program to registered half Saddlebreds was in the best interest of accomplishing this strategic goal for the breed.
Adding Half-Saddlebreds to the Champion program will be an incentive to encourage those who have not yet registered their Half-Saddlebreds to do so as they can now work towards the CH-SH designation.
The proposal from EWAC that was passed that the ASR Board was that any points systems and recognized disciplines that are in place for the CH-SH program for registered American Saddlebreds have the same points and recognition in the Half-Saddlebred Registry.
