The American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association has announced the establishment of the ASHBA Half American Saddlebred Futurity, which will begin with an Open Weanling Futurity for all 2022 Half-Saddlebred foals. Nominations are due April 30, 2022, with a single fee of $150 for the foal only. The sire or dam must be a full Saddlebred.
Members register with the Half Saddlebred Registry and compete in the year 2022. The Half Saddlebred Open Weanling Futurity will be held at the All American Classic Horse Show at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis in September 2022.
ASHBA will kick off this program by hosting a Stallion Service Auction and presentation on January 22, 2022, at Sunrise Stables in Versailles, Kentucky. Everyone is invited to join this auction, to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. This is an opportunity to purchase services to some of the finest stallions ever offered. Get in on this new futurity by making a stallion service donation for the auction immediately. The deadline for making a stallion service donation is December 17, to be included in the auction catalog. A limited number of stallions will be presented at the auction for a charge of $350 per stallion. To present stallions, please contact Melissa Moore (859-873-9129 or 859-533-6225), Sandy Currier (832-244-5051), or Rick Wedel (812 204-7700).
Also, the Half American Saddlebred Open Weanling Futurity will have its own purse of added money. Stallions of all breeds are invited to donate a breeding service to be auctioned on the same day as the All America Cup auction, January 22, 2022. The proceeds generated will fund the added purse for the same year, 2022. Eighty percent of the purse will be earned by the top 8 weanlings, while 20 percent of the purse will be reserved for the stallions that donated their services and had weanlings in the top 8 places. Any part of the stallion’s 20 percent not paid out will roll over to the succeeding year(s) for the participating stallions.
The Saddlebred over the years has been one of the most desired crosses for many breeds such as the Half Arabian, National Show Horse, Friesian Georgian Grande, and most currently, the Dutch Harness Horse. Now, with the Half American Saddlebred Futurity, the crosses are endless. The futurity will be open to crosses all Half-Saddlebreds and looks forward to seeing how crossing opportunity with opportunity will lead to growth and participation for all.
