ASHA ANNOUNCES ANNUAL MAJOR AWARD RECIPIENTS

The American Saddlebred Horse Association has announced its annual award recipients, based on ballots tabulated by the ASHA Board of Directors.

Nominees for each award are received from the general membership and committee volunteers and voted on by the full Board from the candidates selected. The awards will be presented at the UPHA Convention in Lexington, Kentucky.

The complete list of ASHA Major Awards recipients is as follows:

  • Lifetime Achievement – Jimmy and Helen Robertson, Simpsonville, KY
  • Breeders Hall of Fame – William Blacklaw, Gene and Annalize Van der Walt, Singing Hills Stables, Oregon City, OR and Shelbyville, KY
  • Breeder of the Year 2019 – Julie Behrends- Jones, Danville, KY
  • Horse of the Year – CH The Daily Lottery, owned by: Hillcroft Farm LLC, Paris, KY
  • C.J. Cronan Sportsmanship Award – Kenneth Wheeler, Keswick, VA
  • Lurline Roth Sportsmanship Award – Ceil Wheeler, Keswick, VA
  • Meritorious Service Award – William Blacklaw, Oregon City, OR
  • Wing Commander Medal – Helen Rich, Odessa, FL
  • Paul and Dorothy Gillenwater Family Award – Scarlett Mattson Family, Irvington, KY
  • Gordon Jenkins International Award – Victoria Gillenwater, Knoxville, KY
  • Frank Ogletree Youth Award – Devin Sell, Georgetown, KY

The Wing Tempo Award will not be awarded this year based on the recommendation of the VERSA Board. The VERSA Board carefully considered the nominees for the Wing Tempo award in the specific context of the parameters of the award as set forth by the governing body of the organization. While there were fine examples of the American Saddlebred to consider it was determined that they are still working towards that level of excellence to which Wing Tempo honorees aspire. They hope this year's nominees will continue on their current trajectory to become Wing Tempo honorees in the future.

Visit the ASHA Major Awards page for more information pertaining to the criteria for each award.
