AMHA EXPANDS DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIP OPTIONS FOR 2019

The American Morgan Horse Association has announced that the options for endurance riders at the 2019 National Distance Championship being held October 25-27, in Vinita, Oklahoma, have expanded. In addition to the 50-Mile National Championship, AMHA also will offer a 25-Mile National Championship. Awards also will be offered to the top 10 Morgan finishers of both the Competitive Trail Ride and the Limited Distance Challenge.

The materials for the ride are currently being drafted and will be available soon. AMHA suggests riders start planning their qualifications as soon as they can.

AMHA 50-MILE NATIONAL DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIP RIDE

  • The horse must be registered with AMHA.
  • The horse must be at least 5 years old on the day of the ride.
  • Both horse and rider must have successfully completed at least two (2) AERC endurance rides of 50 or more miles in a day prior to the start of the Championship. Mileage does not have to be earned by the same horse and rider team entering the Championship.

AMHA 25-MILE LIMITED DISTANCE NATIONAL DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIP RIDE

  • The horse must be registered with AMHA.
  • The horse must be at least 5 years old on the day of the ride.
  • Both horse and rider must have successfully completed at least two (2) AERC endurance rides of 25 miles, or one (1) 50-mile ride in a day, prior to the start of the Championship. Mileage does not have to be earned by the same horse and rider team entering the Championship.

COMPETITIVE TRAIL RIDE AND LIMITED DISTANCE CHALLENGE RECOGNITION

  • The horse must be registered with AMHA.

It is important to note that in order to compete in the Morgan National Distance Championship Ride(s) and be eligible for any AMHA awards, both the horse owner and rider (including youth riders) must be current AMHA members in good standing.
