AHCF ANNOUNCES RAFFLE TO BENEFIT UNITED HORSE COALITION

The American Horse Council Foundation (AHCF) has announced a raffle fundraiser to benefit the United Horse Coalition and its efforts to provide resources to horse owners in need of assistance with maintaining and ensuring the health and wellbeing of their horses. The United Horse Coalition is a broad alliance of equine organizations that have joined together under the American Horse Council to educate the horse industry about the issues facing horses At-Risk, or in transition. MORGAN WORLD LOSES YVONNE SEKYRA

Yvonne Sekyra has left the northwest arena, leaving sad family, clients, friends, and her Morgan family. News was received that Yvonne died on Friday, April 29, 2022 (Buckley, Washington).  This note was posted by her daughter: “Today we are deeply saddened.  Yesterday my mother, Yvonne Sekyra,  passed suddenly while at the barn doing what she loved. Thank you to everyone that was there to help and support us. Please pray for us as we grieve the loss of a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother and friend. The AMHA Open Competition Program showcases some of the Morgan breed's best ambassadors. It recognizes Morgans competing in 34 different facets of equine competition based on 8 core activities. APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR UPHA MARIA KNIGHT SCHOLARSHIP

The UPHA Maria Knight Scholarship was established to honor UPHA Professional, Maria Knight and her commitment to providing a college education for her daughter. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit of the applicant’s high school or college transcripts, a resume demonstrating extracurricular activities both in relation to the applicant’s equestrian career and participation in activities in school and the community. Prior scholarships will be taken into consideration. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide a scholarship to children of professional horsemen who are current professional members of UPHA. APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR UPHA PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GRANT

The UPHA Professional Development Grant was established to support UPHA members wanting to pursue continued education to further their equestrian business endeavors. Funds must be used for an educational program or certification to further their equine education, skills or proficiency to improve or enhance the grant recipient’s equine business endeavors. Applicant must be a UPHA member in good standing for a minimum of two years prior to application. HACKNEY YOUTH CONTEST ANNOUNCED

The Hackney Youth Committee and the American Hackney Horse Society are have announced the first of many Hackney Youth contests. The contests are designed to create hands-on youth involvement with Hackneys. The first contest runs from June 1st-June 30th and is open to anyone 21 years of age and under. Those interested in entering should submit a recent photo or 30 second video of them with their favorite Hackney. All entries will receive a Hackney tumbler cup. USEF ANNOUNCES 2022 US SADDLESEAT WORLD CUP TEAM AND COACHES

Eleven athletes from eight states will represent the U.S. Saddle Seat World Cup Team at the 2022 Saddle Seat World Cup, to be held in Harrodsburg, Ky., from July 25-30. Coaches Katie Case (Simpsonville, Ky.) and Pam Roush (Lutz, Fla.) will lead the U.S. team against several teams from abroad. $100,000 BREEDERS CHALLENGE STAKE TO BE HELD AT WORLD'S CHAMPIONSHIP

The $100,000 Breeders Challenge Class will be held at the 2022 World's Championship Horse Show. This class is for four-year-olds and will be judged by Three Gaited specifications. Entries may have a full or trimmed mane. The class will be stripped and judged for conformation. The only horses eligible for this class are those with a voucher issued by the American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association. These are the three only ways to have a voucher. 1.) Own a stallion whose service was donated to the Breeders Challenge stallion service auction.
2.)  Purchase a stallion service through the 2021 Breeders Challenge Stallion Service Auction.
3.) Owner of a voucher sells an age appropria

UPHA ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS FOR 2022 CARETAKER HALL OF FAME

UPHA is now accepting nominations for the 2022 Jesus Gonzales Gomez UPHA Caretaker Hall of Fame. The next inductee into this Hall of Fame must share enthusiasm and loyalty with his/her barn family and maintain perseverance in the face of adversity. Two Caretaker Hall of Fame awards are offered each year. One is presented at the Lexington Junior League Show, the other at the Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show. ASHBA EXPANDS BREEDERS' AWARDS PROGRAM

The American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association (ASHBA) is expanding its popular Breeders’ Awards Program, which recognizes the breeder of the Champion and Reserve Champion in designated classes. Breeders of designated Champions receive a commemorative silver medallion; a bronze medallion is awarded to breeders of Reserve Champions in those classes. The program will now include designated classes in the Park and Equitation divisions, along with all ASHBA Prize Program classes, that include the National Futurity, Sweepstakes and Breeder's Challenge classes. --via ASHBA

ASHBA ANNOUNCES 12-&-UNDER WALK/TROT PLEASURE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM

The American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association (ASHBA) is creating a National Championship program for Walk-and-Trot Pleasure 12-&-Under. Last year, there were 184 classes held in the division nationwide with over 800 entries, making it the largest division without a World’s or National Championship title. The American Morgan Horse Association has released a reminder that the last Judges School of 2022 will be held at the Morgan Gold Cup Regional Show from June 16-18 in Columbus, Ohio.  The application deadline is June 7, 2022 at 5:00 PM Eastern time.  Applications are available, along with Frequently Asked Questions, on the AMHA website. The American Saddlebred Museum has announced the grand re-opening of the Elisabeth M. Goth History Wing and the opening of the new exhibit, CH My-My, on May 21. The new History Wing features an expanded history of the American Saddlebred from past to future, a virtual-reality exhibit, life-size mare and foal sculptures, children's activities, exhibits highlighting the versatility of the American Saddlebred, and interactive exhibits. The 2022 ASHBA Half Saddlebred Futurity will offer an Open Weanling Futurity for all 2022 Half-Saddlebred foals. Nominations are due April 30, 2022, with a single fee of $150 for the foal only. CITRUS CUP TO HOST FIRST RULE FORUM OF 2022

The American Morgan Horse Association again will be hosting USEF Rule Change Forums at all the 2022 Regional Horse Shows. Take the time to participate in the Regional Rule Forums at any regional show.    Some of the proposals include allowing the use of supplemental hair, allowing any type of pad in Classic Pleasure (leaving the length requirement as is), allowing all Western horses to show in a snaffle bit, and clarifications to several class specifications. USEF ESTABLISHES USEF UKRAINE RELIEF FUND

US Equestrian will be joining the FEI in its recently announced efforts to provide support to the equestrian community of Ukraine by establishing the USEF Ukraine Relief Fund. One-hundred percent of funds collected will go to the FEI solidarity relief fund and directly to those in need of support. The FEI is liaising closely with the Ukrainian Equestrian Federation (UEF) and neighboring countries to facilitate support. The USEF Board of Directors has committed to allocating additional relief funding. JOINT LEADERSHIP COUNCIL OFFERS RELIEF FUND FOR TORNADO VICTIMS

The Joint Leadership Council is comprised of leadership from the American Hackney Horse Society, American Morgan Horse Association, American Road Horse and Pony Association, American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association, and the United Professional Horsemen’s Association. Thanks to the generosity of donors and the equestrian community, the JLC Fund and the UPHA Dewey Henderson Benevolent fund have distributed more than $90,000 in aid to members in need due to the impacts of the pandemic and natural disasters. 2022 AMHA BREED PROMOTION GRANTS AWARDED

The American Morgan Horse Association has announced the 2022 Breed Promotion Grant recipients. This program helps organizations with their Morgan horse promotional efforts. The selection committee carefully reviewed each application and applauds everyone’s hard work on their submissions. AMHA ANNOUNCES 2022 COMPETITION GRANT RECIPIENTS

For 2022, the AMHECT/World Morgan Futurity Stallion Service Auction has granted 5 percent of its net proceeds for the American Morgan Horse Association Competition Grants Program, and AMHA has contributed additional funds in support of shows. This program aides financially challenged Morgan competitions. HONORING LOVED ONES AT THE AMERICAN SADDLEBRED MUSEUM

The American Saddlebred Museum has invited patrons to consider honoring a horse, person or organization at the Museum. There are several programs available. The upcoming deadline to be included in the 2022 installation is March 31. Executive Director Jennifer Foster says, “Having a familiar name at the Museum, either outside on the Walk of Honor Tile, Saddlebred Sidewalk Brick, or inside the History Wing on the Roll of Honor is special. Visitors love reading the names--it’s a special part of Saddlebred History.” Roll of Honor names are placed around the top of the Museum’s History Wing. This is a special way a person, horse, or organization is honored in perpetuity

UPDATES FOR CALIFORNIA SADDLE HORSE FUTURITY

The California Futurity Board of Directors has announced that it will be returning to South Point in Las Vegas, Nevada, for its 2022 show, October 27-29. Featuring Saddlebreds, Morgans, Hackney Ponies, Saddle Seat Equitation, Open Pleasure and the California Saddlebred Futurity, the show also announced that it has named Josh Greer of East Bernstadt, Kentucky, as the judge for all classes. ASHBA HELPS BENNETT SCHOLARSHIP BECOME ENDOWMENT

The American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association has joined the Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine and many in the breed community to create the Dr. Scott Bennett Equine Veterinary Endowment. ASHBA took the opportunity to invest $25,000 in the future medical professionals that will help have an everlasting impact on the breed, like Dr. Bennett. “In honoring Dr. Bennett, we are also investing in our industry by ensuring that we have qualified veterinarians to take care of our horses in the future," said David Mount, ASHBA executive director.  "The fund will be formally established as an endowment fund at the next Ohio State Board of Trustee's meeting,"&nb

The American Morgan Horse Association Judges Schools for 2022 have been announced, and will be held in conjunction with: The Carousel Charity Show - March 17-19 in Scottsdale, Arizona (Application deadline is March 8, 2022; 5 p.m. Eastern time). The Morgan Gold Cup Regional Show - June 16-18 in Columbus, Ohio (Application deadline is June 7, 2022; 5 p.m. Eastern time). Applications are now available, along with Frequently Asked Questions, on the AMHA website.
