AHHS ANNOUNCES 2019 AWARD WINNERS

The American Hackney Horse Society has announced its 2019 annual award winners. Winners will be recognized at the United Professional Horsemen's Association/AHHS Convention in Lexington, Kentucky, in January. ASHA'S DEVIN SELL WINS 2019 USEF YOUTH SPORTSMAN'S AWARD

US Equestrian has announced Devin Sell (Georgetown, Kentucky) as the winner of the 2019 USEF Youth Sportsman’s Award in recognition of her contributions and achievements this year. The USEF Youth Sportsman’s Award identifies outstanding youth members actively involved in their respective discipline or breed organizations and acknowledges their potential as future leaders in the equine industry. MIKE GOEBIG NOMINATED FOR 2019 USEF EQUESTRIAN OF HONOR

US Equestrian has announced that Morgan trainer Mike Goebig is a nominee for the 2019 Equestrian of Honor award. For the first time, an International Equestrian of the Year and a National Equestrian of the Year will be named for their achievements in 2019. Winners are determined based on the results of online voting, which is now open through Thursday, January 2, 2020, at midnight. There are ten 2019 Equestrians of Honor nominated. The 2019 International and National Equestrians of the Year will be awarded on January 10, 2020, during the 2019 Pegasus Awards at the US Equestrian Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida. US Equestrian’s Pegasus Awards honor some of the great men and women of equestrian sport.

US EQUESTRIAN TO RECOGNIZE ELLEN DI BELLA WITH 2019 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

US Equestrian has announced the recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Junior Equestrian of the Year Award to be acknowledged at the 2020 US Equestrian Annual Meeting at the Hilton West Palm Beach in West Palm Beach, Florida. AMHECT AWARDS 2020 MEMORIAL GRANTS

The American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust has awarded four recipients with 2020 memorial grants in memory of Harry Sebring and Elberta Honstein. The selection committee received numerous applications and was, once again, presented with a daunting challenge. This year, two grants were issued in memory of Harry Sebring. Harry Sebring was a renowned Morgan horse trainer who also served as president of the AMHA. US EQUESTRIAN ANNOUNCES 2020 U.S. SADDLE SEAT WORLD CUP TEAM

Thirty-two aspiring team riders from 17 states competed in the U.S. Saddle Seat World Cup Team Selection Trials at William Woods University on Saturday, December 7. Twenty athletes competed in the three-gaited section and 12 riders competed in the five-gaited section. Each phase consisted of one rail ride and one pattern ride on an unfamiliar horse. After impressive showings at the Selection Trials, 12 athletes were chosen to represent the United States at the 2020 Saddle Seat World Cup in Parys, South Africa, next July. APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR 2020 MORGAN PROMOTION GRANT

The American Morgan Horse Association's 2020 Breed Promotion Grant offered to Morgan enthusiasts for their promotional efforts is now open and accepting submissions. The application deadline is Wednesday, January 15, 2020. This grant is open to any AMHA club, organized Morgan group, Morgan barn, or AMHA-affiliated organization (individuals are ineligible). At least one member of the applying party must be a current AMHA member and all horses involved must be registered Morgans. AMHA will award up to $10,000 each year and will consider requests of all sizes. Applicants may request funding for any Morgan breed promotion purpose. HORSE WORLD LOSES CLAUDE SHIFLET

Claude Harrison Shiflet, 87, of Asheboro passed away on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, in Asheboro, North Carolina. Claude was born in Churchville, Virginia, on July 24, 1932, to Dyche Emory and Edna Skelton Shiflet. He was a lifetime horseman. Claude loved his work and felt blessed to be the successful owner and trainer of Shiflet Stables in Asheboro for more 40 years. Claude was inducted into eight Hall of Fames including The United Professional Horseman Association Hall of Fame and was awarded its Lifetime Achievement Award. The American Saddlebred Museum and International Museum of the Horse have announced the continuation of the popular Lunchtime Lecture series. AMERICAN SADDLEBRED REGISTRY ANNOUNCES 2020 BOARD OF DIRECTORS ADDITIONS

The American Saddlebred Registry has nominated and approved three new board members to fill the seats of Susan Aschenbrenner, Scott Matton and Karen Richardson as their three-year term comes to conclusion. The new ASR board members are Bob Brison, Larry Hartsock and Anna Marie Knipp. These new directors will begin their terms in January 2020, and they will serve until January 2023. The American Morgan Horse Association has completed calculating the high-point portion of the Open Competition program for 2019. The verification period opens today, Friday, November 22, and will close the end of business on Wednesday, December 4. AMHA NOMINATES HUDSON FOR NATIONAL AWARD

The US Equestrian Youth Sportsman’s Award is presented annually to a junior member of USEF to recognize “future leaders within the equine industry from across all breeds and disciplines” and to recognize their achievements. Nominees should demonstrate a variety of characteristics including positive sportsmanship and leadership skills and be active in the promotion of equestrian sport. ASB MUSEUM SPEAKEASY EVENT A SUCCESS

Guys and dolls arrived spiffed up to the American Saddlebred Museum’s Saddlebred Speakeasy event at the Golden Ox in Kansas City, Missouri during the American Royal. Flappers and their fellas were dressed to the nines and enjoyed great company, amazing food and a little giggle water. The silent auction was a winner, bringing in a lot of cabbage to support the Museum’s mission. The American Saddlebred Horse Association has announced that the 2020 Youth Conference will be held February 14-16, 2020, at the Embassy Suites in Lexington, Kentucky. MORGAN WORLD LOSES JULIE ROHRER

Julie Hedges Rohrer, 81, beloved wife of Stephen Berg, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2019, at their home in Andes, N.Y., after a long illness. Born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, on July 7, 1938, Julie grew up in Montclair and was the youngest daughter of Robert and Frances Hedges. She attended The Kimberley School in Montclair and was graduated from Wheaton College (MA) in 1960 with a BA in philosophy. After Wheaton, Julie moved to Manhattan and began a successful career as a financial journalist. She got her start at "Business Week," went onto "Forbes Magazine" and finally landed at "Institutional Investor Magazine" where she worked for almost 20 years. There she rose to the position of se

AHHS RECEIVES PROMOTIONAL GRANT FROM USEF

The American Hackney Horse Society applied for and has received a Membership Incentive Grant in the amount of $2,277, from US Equestrian. The AHHS Board of Directors voted to use the grant monies to promote the Hackney by having a booth and having demonstrations of the Hackney breed, in different disciplines, at the Equine Affaire to be held in Columbus, Ohio, from April 11-14, 2019. The remainder of the grant money was used to purchase Hackney Society drawstring backpacks and popsockets. The deadline to submit Sport Horse Year End Award results is December 15, 2019.  Applicants need to send in competing reporting forms for their discipline, or send a score check report from the National Affiliate such as USDF or USEA, or they may send a copy of the test sheets with the results of the division and the number of entries in the division. ASHA ALPHA CLASSES EXCEL AT NATIONAL ACADEMY CHAMPIONSHIP

Last weekend brought more than 1,000 entries to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and hundreds of American Saddlebreds to compete at the National Academy Championship Horse Show (NACHS). An exciting new addition to the show was the American Saddlebred Horse Association Alpha Open English Pleasure Classes. The two classes offered this year were the ASHA Alpha Open English Pleasure WTC for riders 13 and under, and the ASHA Alpha Open English Pleasure WTC for rider 14 and over. ASHA AND ASR WORK TOGETHER TO PROMOTE HALF-SADDLEBRED REGISTRY

Since the beginning of 2019, the American Saddlebred Horse Association has focused on strengthening partnerships and initiatives for the betterment of the breed. One relationship that has prospered under this focus has been with a sister affiliate, the Arabian Horse Association. After attending the Kentucky State Fair World’s Championship Horse Show, AHA leadership extended a reciprocal invitation for the ASHA leadership to attend their 2019 U.S. Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma. U.S. SADDLE SEAT YOUNG RIDERS WIN GOLD AT SADDLE SEAT INVITATIONAL TEST EVENT

The 2019 U.S. Saddle Seat Young Riders Stars Team secured the gold medal and gained valuable experience in international competition at the 2019 U.S. Saddle Seat Invitational Test Event in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hosted at South Point Arena and Equestrian Center from October 29 through November 1, the U.S. team faced off against a tough Canadian team in three-gaited saddle seat Equitation. Under the guidance of Coach Christy Parker (Hortense, Ga.) and Assistant Coach Mary Mag Wilson (Cave Creek, Ariz.), the U.S. saddle seat Equitation program has again proven itself to be a force in international saddle seat competition. 2020 FIRST-TIME BREEDER PROGRAM ANNOUNCED

The American Saddlebred Registry has announced the details of the  First Time Breeder Program for 2020. This program targets mare owners or lessees who are first-time breeders during the 2020 breeding season. SHOW HORSE WORLD LOSES JENNIFER ROBERTSON

Jennifer Catherine Robertson of Shelbyville passed away at the age of 40 on Monday, October 28, 2019, at her home in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Jennifer was born on January 6, 1979, to Jimmy and Cathy Robertson in Lexington, Kentucky. She moved to Louisville in 1989 when her father accepted the job as manager of the Rock Creek Riding Club. Jennifer graduated from Louisville Christian Academy in 1997 and Sullivan University’s Culinary Institute. AMHA ANNOUNCES YAA JUDGING SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP WINNER

The American Morgan Horse Association Young Adult Alliance (YAA) has presented their sixth annual Judging School Scholarship to Megan Gallagher of Grass Valley, California. US EQUESTRIAN NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2020 SADDLE SEAT WORLD CUP TEAM COACHES

US Equestrian is now accepting applications for the 2020 U.S. Saddle Seat World Cup Team coaches. The U.S. Saddle Seat Team will consist of 12 athletes, six to compete in the three-gaited section and six to compete in the five-gaited section at the 2020 Saddle Seat World Cup from July 19-25, in Parys, South Africa. The American Morgan Horse Association is looking for nominees for the year-end Morgan industry awards.
