SADDLEBRED EQUESTRIAN IS CANDIDATE FOR USEF EQUESTRIAN OF THE YEAR

The Equine Welfare Advisory Committee of the American Saddlebred Horse Association congratulates “one of our own,” Victoria Gillenwater, member of the EWAC, who has been awarded the C.J. Cronan Trophy by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF). The CJ Cronan Trophy is presented to an equestrian competing under saddle in a non-hunter and/or non-Western disciplines. Recipients of this award, along with the other major discipline trophies, are then voted on to name the overall Equestrian of the Year. ASB MUSEUM ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIP AWARD WINNER

The American Saddlebred Museum has announced that Jordan Bartosiak of Brookfield, Wisconsin, is recipient of the first Keith Bartz Impact Scholarship Award. The scholarship committee chose Bartosiak from an outstanding group of nominees. The scholarship celebrates the life of Keith Bartz, who focused his time, talent and resources on building the American Saddlebred Museum and the celebration of the American Saddlebred horse. The recipient is an individual who exemplifies the same character and enthusiasm for our breed.  Bartosiak has been involved with the American Saddlebred for more than 10 years. AMHA ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING SAFE SPORT INITIATIVES

The American Morgan Horse Association fully supports the Safe Sport initiatives aimed at providing a competition environment free from sexual abuse, harassment and bullying. We believe that the AMHA members agree these goals are in the best interest of the sport, our youth and the entire equine industry. As a recognized affiliate organization of US Equestrian, AMHA is subject to comply with the laws, rules and regulations that fall under US Equestrian’s jurisdiction. As such, AMHA is currently complying with Safe Sport measures including but not limited to reporting requirements, training requirements and suspension reciprocity. AMHA ANNOUNCES 2018 AWARD WINNERS

The American Morgan Horse Association Awards Committee has announced that the following individuals will be recognized at its Annual Convention, which will take place February 7-9, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas.  Inducted into AMHA's Hall of Fame is Steve Davis of Vermont. The Breeders' Hall of Fame honors breeders who have produced Morgans that have had a significant impact on the breed. This year's honorees are Couser Creek Ranch in California, Whispering Hill Morgan Farm of Massachusetts, and HRH Stables of Pennsylvania will be entered in posthumously.  The Person of the Year Award honors the individual who has made exceptional contributions to the support and preservation of the Morgan breed

AMHA ISSUES CORRECTIONS TO STAR AWARDS AND OPEN COMPETITION PLACINGS

The American Morgan Horse Association extends its greatest apologies to all participants, as it has been required to update the final standings of both the STAR AWARDS and the OPEN COMPETITION programs due to inadvertent errors. The final results from the Star Awards Program had to be corrected, as many horses that have been gelded but NOT reported as gelded to the Registry were incorrectly listed in the stallion division placings. USEF ANNOUNCES LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AND JUNIOR EQUESTRIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNERS

US Equestrian has announced the recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Junior Equestrian of the Year Award to be acknowledged at the 2019 US Equestrian Annual Meeting at the Hilton West Palm Beach in West Palm Beach, Florida. Georgie Green is the winner of the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award, while Isabela De Sousa is the 2018 Junior Equestrian of the Year. AMHECT AWARDS 2019 MEMORIAL GRANTS

The American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust has awarded four recipients with 2019 memorial grants in loving memory of Harry Sebring and Elberta Honstein. The numerous applications always present a daunting challenge to the selection committee. The Morgan breed is very lucky to have so many young adults and youth members pursuing such a variety of programs and providing such extensive submissions for consideration. RUNWAY AND RESCUE SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY

CENTRAL REGION MORGAN SHOW ANNOUNCES 2019 DATES

The Missouri Valley Morgan Horse Club will host its second Central Region Morgan Show on August 10-11, 2019, at the indoor Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. SADDLEBRED WORLD LOSES STEVE HANKS

Steve E. Hanks, 66, of Statesville, North Carolina, passed away on December 3, 2018, at his residence. Born on July 24, 1952, in Statesville, Steve was the son of Harold Hanks and the late Frances Foster Hanks. Steve's love and passion was for horses, especially road horses. He loved to travel to horse shows and training horses, and was well known and sought after in the horse world. Over the years, he won many awards and was proudest of three awards in particular, which were ARHPA Hall of Fame, UPHA Herman Miles Horse Show Manger of the Year and ASAC Trainer of the Year. STALLION SERVICE REPORTS DUE JAN. 15

Per the American Morgan Horse Association Registry Rules, if a member has bred their stallion to a registered Morgan mare in 2018, they must file a Stallion Service Report. The deadline for these reports is January 15, 2019, and they must be postmarked by that date. Reports not filed on time will be assessed a late fee. WISCONSIN LIMITED BREEDERS STALLION AUCTION TO BE HELD IN JANUARY

The 34th Annual Wisconsin Limited Breeders Stallion Service Auction will be held Sunday, January 13, 2019, at the Thunder Bay Restaurant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. US Equestrian has announced the recipients of the 2018 Pegasus Awards. The following awards are bestowed annually to equestrians for their service to the sport. Clea Cloutier, 16, of Derry, New Hampshire, has been selected as the overall winner of the 2018 USEF Youth Sportsman’s Award. The American Saddlebred Horse Association is part of the World Championship Horse Show Advisory Committee, and will be presenting recommendations during their December 2018 meeting for the 2019 Kentucky State Fair World Championship Horse Show. The Kentucky Venues owns and produces the World Championship Horse Show and is governed by the Kentucky State Fair Board. The board will take the suggestions put forth by ASHA and consider them for improvement of the show for exhibitors in 2019. CALL TO ACTION: DONATE TO USEF EQUINE DISASTER RELIEF FUND TO HELP HORSES AFFECTED BY CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES

With the deadliest wildfire raging in the state’s history and nearly 210,000 acres burned and ablaze from fires across the state, California and its citizens and equine community are facing one of equestrians’ worst fears. Many people have been forced to flee their homes, farms, and ranches, with little or no warning, turning horses and livestock loose to fend for themselves and hope for their survival. EQUITATE TO HOST ADULT CAMP IN EARLY FEBRUARY

Equitate has announced that it will host its 2019 Adult Saddle Seat Riding Camp on February 1-3, in its fully heated facility in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. The guest instructors for the weekend will be Todd and Macey Miles of Milestone Stables in White House, Tennessee. New this year, Equitate will be offering riding on all three days. There will be riding instruction and discussion on many topics, from judging and veterinary care to horse buying and selling, with a lot of opportunity for question and answer sessions. This is a wonderful opportunity to ride several different horses and improve and fine tune a rider's skills in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. AMHA MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS IN THE MAIL

The 2019 American Morgan Horse Association membership renewals were sent in the middle of October, so any members who haven't received it already, soon will find it in their mailbox. Members will notice their US Equestrian number in the top-right hand corner. If it is blank, please provide it to AMHA. The association is working with US Equestrian to include AMHA information on their membership cards. AMHA says that by having both member numbers on one card will make is easier for show secretaries. For members who do not have a card, USEF will provide one. U.S. Premium members receive added benefits, including a subscription to "The Morgan Horse" magazine

STALLION SERVICE REPORTS DUE TO AMHA BY JAN. 15

Per the American Morgan Horse Association Registry Rules, if a member has bred their stallion to a registered Morgan mare in 2018, they must file a Stallion Service Report. The deadline for these reports is January 15, 2019, and must be postmarked by that date. Those reports not filed on time will be assessed a late fee. All registry forms can be downloaded at Registry Forms, or call the Registry at (802) 985-4944 or email registry@morganhorse.com to request a form. -- via AMHA

US EQUESTRIAN NOW ACCEPTING COACH APPLICATIONS FOR 2019 U.S. SADDLE SEAT YOUNG RIDERS TEAM

US Equestrian has announced that coach applications are now being accepted for the 2019 U.S. Saddle Seat Young Riders Team. Two coaches will be selected for the 2019 U.S. Saddle Seat Young Riders Team, competing in New Orleans, Louisiana, in May 2019. There is a possibility that two additional coaches will be selected for a team to compete at an Invitational Test Event on the West Coast in July or October 2019. Interested and qualified parties should complete an application and submit their résumé no later than November 30, 2018. The application and job description can be found here.

WORLD MORGAN FUTURITY CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL EVENT

The World Morgan Futurity chalked up another highly successful year featuring some of the breed’s finest youngsters on display at the 2018 Morgan Grand National & World Championship Horse Show in Oklahoma City during the week of October 6-13. Offering a total payout of $108,561, including Jackpots, Auction Rewards and Auction Bonuses, the Futurity enjoyed well-filled performance classes and a slight increase in the in-hand division from recent years. The yearling in-hand division offered $20,838 of prize money in classes for fillies, geldings and colts. US EQUESTRIAN ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2019 U.S. SADDLE SEAT YOUNG RIDERS TEAM

US Equestrian has announced that applications are now being accepted for the 2019 U.S. Saddle Seat Young Riders Team. During years that the Saddle Seat World Cup competition is not held, members of the Young Rider Team will be eligible to represent the United States in other international competitions, whether at home or abroad. The purpose of the Young Rider Team is to develop athletes for future Saddle Seat World Cup competitions. The Saddle Seat World Cup is a bi-annual competition that originated in the early 1980s with an informal exchange of saddle seat riders in the United States and South Africa, formally named the Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup in 1992. The Texas American Saddle Horse Association has announced that its 2018 Holiday Horse Show will be held on December 1-2, 2018 in Bryan, Texas, at the Brazos County Expo located at 5827 Leonard Rd. MONTERAE OPENS IN ASHBY, MASS.

Nikki Rae Woodworth, a long-time Morgan exhibitor, trainer and riding instructor, has announced the opening of her public training stable, MonteRae, just outside the historic town of Ashby, Massachusetts. The 38-stall barn is located on 250 acres, including a building that features a very large indoor arena and round pen, as well as an office and lounge. Once Nikki and her more than 20 training horses are settled into the new location, she hopes to hire a full-time riding instructor and offer outside lessons. INFORMATION FROM THE UPHA GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE

The following information was released by the United Professional Horsemen's Association Governance Committee. A new United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Rule, GR1303 Safe Sport Requirements, was approved by the USEF Board of Directors on August 27, 2018. All USEF Competing adult Members (amateurs, professionals, owners) MUST take Safe Sport Training in order to be eligible to compete in 2019. This includes Annual, Three Year and Lifetime Members. Safe Sport Training MUST be complete by January 1, 2019 or within thirty (30) days of renewing a membership, or will be ineligible to compete at a USEF Competition. The American Saddlebred Horse Association Board of Directors voting is open to all 2018 ASHA Life, Contributing, Senior, and Charter Club Affiliate members over the age of 18. Members may vote online for up to six candidates by logging in with their ASHA credentials. Complete biographies for each candidate are available for review at the online site. Online voting will be open until Friday, November 30, 2018. For those who prefer to vote by mail, printed ballots were mailed to eligible members who had previously requested to receive a paper ballot.
