The 13th Annual All American Cup Stallion Service Auction and Review will be held the weekend of January 23 & 24.   All American Cup tickets for the entire weekend are only $10. MIDWEST AOT CLINIC REGISTRATION DEADLINE EXTENDED

The registration deadline for the Midwest AOT Clinic has been extended until January 31, 2015. The clinic will be held on February 7-8, 2015 in Waukesha, WI. Melissa Moore of Sunrise Stables in Versailles, KY is the clinician, with Sarah Watson, DC, VSMT presenting on rider fitness. With a limit of only 20 horses, each rider will have two lessons with Melissa. In addition to the lessons, the clinic will feature sessions on shoeing, bits, tails, long lining, and horse and rider turnout. Auditors are welcome. Fees are $450 per horse (maximum of two riders per horse) and $80 to audit. JUDY WERNER TO BE AWARDED 2014 USEF LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) is pleased to announce Judy Werner as the winner of the 2014 USEF Lifetime Achievement Award. Werner, of Waterloo, Illinois, has played an influential role in the American Saddlebred industry for decades. Participating as a competitor, breeder, and leader, Werner has made numerous contributions to the equine industry.  For her years of service, Werner has been awarded the 2014 USEF Lifetime Achievement Award and will receive the Jimmy A. Williams Lifetime Achievement Trophy at the Pegasus Awards gala.

MID-AMERICA SPRING MOVES TO MADISON’S BRAND NEW FACILITY, APRIL 2-4, 2015

Mid-America Horse Show Association has moved its spring show to the Madison, Wisconsin Alliant Energy Center’s brand new facility specifically designed for livestock.  The show also has a new name –– Mid-America Spring Fling – and dates a week later, April 2-4, Thursday-Saturday (but not on Easter Sunday).   The new Madison venue provides exhibitors excellent facilities with 120’x200’ make-up ring feeding into a show ring of same size, plus 500 stalls with 10’ wide aisles – all under one roof, totally enclosed, in the brand new 200,000- square-foot New Holland Pavilion #2 at the Alliant Energy Center.  Water and electric are located on all support pillars, the

TEAM AMERICAN SADDLEBREDS, INC. ANNOUNCES SUSAN SWOPE MICROCHIP FUND

Team American Saddlebreds, Inc. (TAS) is excited to announce the creation of the Susan Swope Microchip Fund. The fund is a matching gift up to $500.00 that will provide for microchips to be purchased and placed in horses that are found at risk, when TAS lacks funds to purchase them and as a means to identify them, if they are found at risk of slaughter. TAS is a registered 501(c) (3) organization whose mission is to assist American Saddlebreds that are in need, at risk of neglect or face a threat of slaughter. ASHA WELCOMES NEW DIRECTORS FOR 2015

The American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) is pleased to announce the election of seven new members to its Board of Directors, who will join the Board starting in January of 2015 at the UPHA Convention, which will host the ASHA annual meeting. 
Allen Bosworth, Sandra Currier, Elisabeth Goth, Donna Pettry-Smith, and Jenny Taylor were elected to the ASHA Board of Directors for a term of three years, starting in 2015.  Also re-elected were current ASHA board members David Rudder and Kenny Wheeler.

AHHS ANNOUNCES 2015 OFFICERS

The AHHS Board of Directors met on Saturday, November 22, to vote for 2015 Officers. The 2015 Officers are as follows: president, Andy Freseth; vice president, John Wrather; treasurer, Junior Schut; recording secretary, Mindy Preston. COACHES ANNOUNCED FOR 2015 U.S. SADDLE SEAT YOUNG RIDERS TEAMS

The United States Equestrian Federation is pleased announce the coaches for the 2015 U.S. Saddle Seat Young Riders Teams. Melissa Smith (Kansas City, Missouri) and Kent Swalla (Columbia, Missouri) have been named as coaches of the home team. Their team will be competing at the U.S. Saddle Seat Invitational at Cascade Stables in New Orleans, Louisiana, in June. SADDLEBRED COMMUNITY LOSES WALTER BUSH

Walter Bush of Buckeye, Arizona, passed away on November 19, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was an international businessman, world traveler and a premier American Saddlebred horse breeder. Walter was born September 25, 1929, in Dadeville, Missouri, to Calvin W. and Maude Friend Bush. He is survived by his wife Connie, sister Amanda Margaret Cushman, and sons Danny and Alexander. Walter spent the 1950s studying at the Sorbonne in Paris, servicing American Military Personnel with life insurance on military bases in Europe and North Africa. He founded his own general agency in Frankfurt, Germany. In the 1960s, Mr. Bush moved to Phoenix, while maintaining a Zurich home and office and traveling to other agency offices located i

2015 ASHA YOUTH CONFERENCE DATES ANNOUNCED

The ASHA Youth Conference returns to the Embassy Suites Lexington on February 13-14, 2015. This is the time of the year Youth Clubs are recognized for their achievements, and this year it is a Youth Conference only since ASHA is partnering with UPHA earlier in the year for the ASHA Annual Meeting .  So, YOUth, it’s all about you! INAUGURAL UPHA OPEN GATE LEARNING CENTER IS A SUCCESS

The first UPHA Open Gate Learning Center at the 2014 UPHA/American Royal National Championship Horse Show was very successful. A great group of 18 students participated in the program, which was overseen by UPHA tutor Debra Murphy. The students put in more than 80 hours of study time. INAUGURAL MIDWEST AOT CLINIC ANNOUNCED

Linda A. Albery, 76 of Columbia passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 at her home with family by her side.    Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be held in Decatur, IL as well as in Chandler, AZ at a later date.  Linda was born July 4, 1938, in Decatur, IL to Robert H. and Helen M. SADDLEBRED WORLD LOSES DUDLEY ABBOTT

Dudley Abbott, 90, husband of Sharon L. Abbott, died Thursday, October 16, 2014. 
  Mr. Abbott was born December 15, 1923, in Tarma, Kentucky to Jesse and Bertha McKinney Abbott. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in World War II. Mr. Abbott was a professional horse trainer and worked at Meadowbrook Farm, managed Tattersalls Sales and judged at The Red Mile. He was also a founding member of the UPHA, a member of the UPHA Hall of Fame, a member of the American Hackney Horse Society Hall of Fame, a member of the American Shetland Pony Association Hall of Fame and a member of the Indiana Horsemen's Association Hall of Fame.

WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY TO HOST EQUINE ACADEMIC SHOWCASE

Prospective students interested in equestrian studies will have their chance to have their questions answered during William Woods University’s annual Equine Academic Showcase Nov. 7 and 8. The showcase is an opportunity for potential equestrian science, equine administration or equine general studies major to get an in-depth look at what makes the WWU equestrian program a leader in equestrian education. SADDLEBRED WORLD LOSES PHILIP CROWLEY

Philip A. Crowley, devoted husband of Mildred “Millie” Crowley (nee Krueger), passed away October 13, 2014 at the age of 65. Philip and Millie were married nearly 47 years. He was the loving father of Coleen Crowley, and the adopted grandfather of Brie and Cassidy Collins. Philip was a longtime employee of Federal Express as an A.S.E.  Senior Mechanic and was a member of the National Street Rod Association, winning many awards at local venues. KENTUCKY ASHA MEMBERS CAN SUPPORT ASHA YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS BY USING THEIR KROGER CARD

Kentucky American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) members may support ASHA Youth Scholarships by using their Kroger rewards card.   The ASHA has been added to the Kroger Community Rewards program with reward rebates from using Kroger cards to supporting ASHA Youth Scholarships.  To enroll in the program simply register your Kroger card, then under Community Rewards select American Saddlebred Horse Association or use the NPO number 29850.  Checks are issued quarterly, so if you sign up immediately, the ASHA will receive a reward check for this quarter which ends November 30.  Register to support the ASHA Scholarship program today.

BILL WHITLEY NAMED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE AMERICAN SADDLEBRED HORSE ASSOCIATION

The Board of Directors of the American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) announced today that Bill Whitley has been named as the Executive Director of ASHA.   Bill is well known and highly regarded in the American Saddlebred industry.  His early years were spent on horse farms, training American Saddlebreds and other breeds and their riders for the show ring.  Bill had a 33-year career with the North Carolina State Treasurer’s Office, where he managed a team of 10 employees and a $68 billion portfolio of investments.  After his retirement, he became more active with his first love – the equestrian industry.  He has been selected as Horse World’s People’s Choice Ringmaster

2014 UPHA HORSE/PONY OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED

The 2014 UPHA Horse/Pony of The Year Nominations are now being accepted. ASHA ANNOUNCES NEW MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

The American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) has restructured membership categories in an effort to make ASHA memberships more affordable to breed enthusiasts.    Owners and trainers of horses participating at USEF licensed competitions in all American Saddlebred sections must be current ASHA Competing members. Beginning with the 2015 membership year, ASHA will offer Senior Non-Competing memberships for $40.00 and Senior Competing memberships for $70.00.  ASHA is also offering Charter Club Affiliate Non-Competing memberships for $30.00 and Charter Club Affiliate Competing memberships for $60.00.  Competing membership is automatically included with Life, Contributing, Youth Club Affiliate, Junior, a

SADDLEBRED WORLD LOSES FORMER ASHA EXECUTIVE SECRETARY PATRICIA NICHOLS

Patricia Nichols was 84 at the time of her death in Bloomington, Minnesota, on September 26, 2014. She took her position as the ASHA Executive Secretary in 1985, while the ASHA office was in Louisville, Kentucky. The office was moved to the Kentucky Horse Park a short time after Pat became the Executive Secretary. Pat made the move to the Lexington office along with Lynn Weatherman and Dede Gatlin. Mae Condon joined Pat’s team soon after the move to Lexington. Mae commented that, “We had a wonderful team and we all knew that Pat was the leader.” Current ASHA employees Lisa Duncan and Carrie Mortensen worked with Pat until she retired in 1996. ASHA & ASR ANNOUNCE LAUNCH OF NEW DATABASE

The American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) and the American Saddlebred Registry (ASR) announced the launch of the new database on Wednesday, October 1.  

The database is the result of a two-year project with the first part consisting of a conversion from an AS/400 system to new technologies built in .Net, and the second part is to upgrade the website that will be launched in early 2015.

The ASHA and ASR are grateful to the generous donors that have provided funds to make this project a reality.

2015 AMHA JUDGES SCHOOL ANNOUNCED

The locations for the three 2015 AMHA Judges School have been announced. The first school will take place at the AMHA Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota, February 27-28, and will be open to "R" judges and persons interested in auditing. It is not open to "r" judges.   The second school will take place at the Carousel Charity Horse Show in Scottsdale, Arizona, March 12-14. “VIRTUAL” HORSE SHOW MAKES NEXT YEAR’S REAL SHOW POSSIBLE FOR RMHSA

Despite an outbreak of Equine Vesicular Stomatitis that has led to the cancellation of several horse shows this fall in Colorado, the Rocky Mountain Horse Show Association (RMHSA), based in Denver, turned an obstacle into an opportunity.  On September 12, the inaugural Virtual Colorado Fall Charity Horse Show became a reality.   “Our horse show exhibitors here in Colorado were really disheartened when our horse shows had to be canceled,” said Virtual Show Manager Shari Ashley.  “RMHSA decided that if we couldn’t have a real horse show, we can have a virtual one.”   Turnout was high for this single-performance Friday evening horse show and exhibitors’

ASHA TRAINERS' EQUITATION CUP TO BE HELD AT KENTUCKY FALL CLASSIC

The American Saddlebred Horse Association is pleased to announce the First Annual ASHA Trainers’ Equitation Cup at the Kentucky Fall Classic Horse Show on Saturday, October 4, 2014 in Lexington, Kentucky, at the Kentucky Horse Park. The class will consist of rail work and a work out. UPHA TO HOST “OPEN GATE LEARNING CENTER" AT THE UPHA/AMERICAN ROYAL

The UPHA is launching an on-site study and learning center for young equestrians who are competing at the UPHA National Championship. It can be very challenging for junior exhibitors to keep up with academic studies while competing at horse shows during the school year.   The UPHA Open Gate Learning Center is designed to help students in grades 3-12 stay abreast of their academic requirements by providing a structured learning environment during the UPHA/American Royal National Championship.   The Center will be supervised by a professional teacher, who can provide academic support for students.
