HALF-SADDLEBREDS TO BE RECOGNIZED AT 2021 AMERICAN DUTCH HARNESS HORSE FINALS

The American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association is partnering with the American Dutch Harness Horse Association to recognize the highest placing Half-Saddlebreds at the American Dutch Harness Horse Finals. The Finals will be held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in conjunction with the All-American Classic Horse Show on September 8-11. The highest placing Half-Saddlebreds in each of the championship classes at the Finals will each receive a commemorative ribbon from ASHBA and a discount for the Half-Saddlebred Registry.  The Half-Saddlebred recognition began two years ago with the Arabian Horse Association at the 2019 US National Arabian and Half-Arabian Horse Show. $20,000 ADDED TO ASHBA 3-YEAR-OLD SWEEPSTAKES CLASSES AT ALL AMERICAN HORSE CLASSIC

In 2019, participants and members were asked to vote on a show location for the Three-Year-Old Sweepstakes classes, with more than 80 percent voting for the All American Horse Classic (AAHC). The AAHC has announced the addition of added prize money for the 2021-2023 classes. “The All American Horse Classic, held in Indianapolis, Indiana, from September 8-11, 2021, has added $60,000 in prize money to the prestigious [American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association] Three-Year-Old Sweepstakes. AAHC and friends of the Sweepstakes added $5,000 per division in all four 3-year-old classes each year for a total of $20,000 per year over the next three years. AMHA LAUNCHES PILOT GRANT PROGRAM FOR JUDGE DEVELOPMENT

The American Morgan Horse Association has announced a new grant program for 2022 competitions. Funded by grant monies received by the American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust, the AMHA Judges Development Grant Program is accepting applications until November 1, 2021, for 2022 competitions. The purpose is to strengthen and further develop the current pool of USEF-licensed Morgan judges by:  Reducing financial hardships on competitions, thus increasing Morgan judging opportunities for USEF-licensed Morgan judges at AMHA Star Shows, and Providing incentives for larger USEF-recognized Morgan competitions to add a small 'r' judge to their panel of judges, providing of

ASHBA ANNOUNCES STALLIONS IN 2021 BREEDERS CHALLENGE AUCTION

The Breeder’s Challenge Stallion Auction Events at the 2021 Kentucky State Fair World's Championship Horse Show are happening soon. Seventy eight American Saddlebred stallions are available for preview now. SADDLE & BRIDLE ADJUSTS QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR 2021 WESTERN FINALS

"Saddle & Bridle Magazine" has announced that it has adjusted the qualification requirements for its 2021 Western Finals. The qualifier class for the Shatner Western Pleasure National Championship, which previously required three horses to fill, now will only require two. Additionally, the Working Western Pleasure National Championship will be run as an invitational, open to any American Saddlebred horse that has competed in a western class during the current competition year, open or American Saddlebred, trail/working or rail. 2021 EQUITANA USA ANNOUNCES PROGRAMMING SCHEDULE

EQUITANA USA has announced the programming for the event’s three-day celebration of the horse. The Oct. 1-3 event at the Kentucky Horse Park will host events ranging from celebrity and industry notable appearances and talks, to horse exhibitions and kid-centric events. ASB MUSEUM AWARDED GRANT FROM INSTITUTE OF MUSEUM AND LIBRARY SERVICE

The American Saddlebred Museum has announced that it has been selected to receive a FY2021 Inspire! Grants for Small Museums award from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. EQUITANA ANNOUNCES FORMER FIRST LADY OF KY. RETURNS AS EVENT SPOKESPERSON

HORSE WORLD MOURNS THE LOSS OF DANNY TROUTMAN

Daniel Edward Troutman, 68, of Salem, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A graveside service to honor his life will be conducted on Monday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, in Vinton, Va. Danny's lifelong love for horses and horse people is no surprise as over the years he has been the recipient of numerous awards from the many associations he belonged to: The American Saddlebred Association of Virginia, The Roanoke Valley Horseman's Association, The American Hackney Horse Society and The United Professional Horsemen's Association, just to name a few. ASB MUSEUM CELEBRATES EVENT SUCCESSES

The American Saddlebred Museum held two successful events during the Lexington Jr. League Horse Show week. On Friday, July 18 over 200 guests enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at Black Diamond Farm. The afternoon included a classic car show on the lawn and a poolside lunch. The highlight of the event included a fashion show featuring Saddlebred trainers, riders and supporters as models. Women’s fashions were provided by Glasscock Too from Louisville and the men’s style was provided by Crittenden Rawlings, in Midway. Guests also enjoyed shopping with a selection of specialty vendors. Saturday, July 19 was a festive morning featuring the much anticipated Equine Art, Antique and Rare Book Auction.

ASHBA UPDATES MAJOR AWARD PROGRAM

The American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association has updated its nomination period for the member major award program. The nomination period will now require all nominations for awards not related to breeding will be due August 1. The Breeders Hall of Fame and Breeder of the Year award nominations will be due September 1, after the conclusion of the World’s Championship Horse Show. ASHBA ANNOUNCES YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Each year, the American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association recognizes its members age 21 and under on the basis of academic success, financial need, involvement with ASHBA youth programs, and extracurricular activities. The purpose of the scholarships is to encourage, support, and recognize participation in all aspects of the American Saddlebred industry, as well as to strengthen the American Saddlebred industry through education. WISE CROWNED 2021 USEF SADDLE SEAT ADULT AMATEUR MEDAL FINAL CHAMPION

Kendra Wise has been crowned the 2021 USEF Saddle Seat Adult Amateur Medal Final champion at the 85th Annual Lexington Junior League Charity Horse Show. In the last class of the morning session on Wednesday, July 14, eight competitors demonstrated their skill during group railwork, and then executed an intricate individual pattern designed by judges Anne Judd (Lutz, Fla.), Paul Boone (Concord, N.C.), and Kristen Cater (Dunbarton, N.H.). The American Hackney Horse Society has announced that trainer Denny Lang and Breeders Ed, and the late Jean Wilson, are the 2021 Lee and Beverly Dunn Hackney Hall of Fame inductees. The inductions will take place during the Wednesday evening session at the Kentucky State Fair World’s Championship Horse Show. AHHS VIRTUAL YOUTH CONTEST ANNOUNCED

The 2021 American Hackney Horse Society virtual youth contest is sponsored by Heritage Stables, Bryan, Katy and Ellie Earehart of Greensboro, N.C., and will run through July 31.  There are 3 ways to enter: Submit a 1 minute video of you on camera interviewing a trainer, amateur or junior exhibitor finding out what he/she loves most about showing Hackneys. Have them talk about a specific example and pony!  Submit a 1 minute video of any Hackney class at a horse show. Give commentary about which pony you like and why. ASHBA EQUINE WELFARE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE LAUNCHES 2021 EXPERIENCE AUCTION

The American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association Equine Welfare Advocacy Committee (EWAC) is offering 20 once-in-a-lifetime experiences to benefit EWAC’s efforts in assisting American Saddlebreds in public seizures and welfare cases by providing grants to rescue organizations that help these horses. Last year’s auction raised more than $16,000 which helped assist more than 60 Saddlebreds from several public seizure cases. Every year, EWAC grants thousands of dollars to assist American Saddlebreds in legal equine welfare cases and through the Bruce Hanson Grant program which assists rescue organizations. This fundraiser will provide much-needed funds to help continue these efforts. EWAC Committee Chair

EQUITANA USA TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE

After postponing the highly anticipated and newest North American edition in 2020, EQUITANA USA and the Kentucky Horse Park have announced ticket sales for 2021 are now open. The EQUITANA USA show will be held Friday, October 1–Sunday, October 3, 2021, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky. The event welcomes all riding levels, disciplines and breeds, as well as enthusiasts of all ages.
