ASHA WELCOMES 2021 BOARD MEMBERS

The American Saddlebred Horse Association has welcomed its 2021 board members from six states, including much needed west coast representation from California. “I am excited to work with the 2021 directors who are a representative board in geography and skillset, bringing a wealth of experience in marketing, communication, finance and law to our organization,” said ASHA Executive Director David Mount. US EQUESTRIAN ANNOUNCES 2020 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AND JUNIOR EQUESTRIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNERS

US Equestrian has announced the recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Junior Equestrian of the Year Award. Sally Ike is the winner of the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award, while Lucy Enns is the 2020 Junior Equestrian of the Year. 2021 ALL AMERICAN CUP STALLION SHOWCASE AND AUCTION REGISTRATION OPEN

ASR FUTURITY 2020 NOMINATED FOALS APPLICATION DEADLINE APPROACHING

In order to maintain American Saddlebred Registry Futurity eligibility, nominated 2020 foals must be registered by, or application for registration faxed, emailed or mailed and postmarked, on or before December 31, 2020. Pending applications for registration (including DNA testing results) must be completed prior to March 31 of the yearling year. An application for registration may be downloaded here.  Applications may also be submitted online from a member’s profile page on the American Saddlebred Horse Association website. WISCONSIN FUTURITY ANNOUNCES ITS 36th STALLION AUCTION

The 36th Annual Wisconsin Limited Breeders Stallion Service Auction will be held Sunday, January 10, 2021, at the Thunder Bay Restaurant in Milwaukee, Wisc.  A buffet brunch will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the annual meeting at 12:30 p.m. The Live Stallion Service Auction will start at 1 p.m. Visit www.wisconsinfuturity.com for continuous updates of participating stallions. Iowa Futurity has announced that its 2021 Stallion Auction is going virtual. Last year the Iowa Limited Breeders Weanling Futurity handed over $30,000 in prize money. Stallion owners should contact Iowa Futurity today to list a stallion. KASPHA BOARD ANNOUNCES 2020 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD RECIPIENTS

The Kentucky American Saddlebred Pleasure Horse Association Board has announced that the following individuals have been awarded scholarships for the 2021 academic year. The KASPHA MERIT SCHOLARSHIP, a $500 scholarship award given to an applicant who competes at the performance level and is looking to pursue further education, has been awarded to David Micheal Winstead of Taylorsville, Kentucky, who has been accepted to Illinois Central College. US EQUESTRIAN RELEASES SCHEDULE FOR VIRTUAL 2021 ANNUAL MEETING

US Equestrian has released the complete schedule for the USEF Annual Meeting, which will be held virtually from January 13-17, 2021. The virtual format and the meeting being free for all members will allow a larger amount of participants in the event. Members are invited to attend special presentations given by the Member Services Council, National Breeds & Disciplines Council, and International Disciplines Council throughout the week to learn more about results from 2020 and plans for 2021. The American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust has awarded the recipients of the 2021 memorial grants in memory of Harry Sebring and Elberta Honstein. The numerous applications always present a daunting challenge to the selection committee. SUPERIOR MORGAN SALE A SUCCESS IN INDIANA

Held November 20-21 at the Michiana Event Center in Shipshewana, Indiana, the Superior Morgan Sale brought Morgan enthusiasts together from all across the country. With 225 lots available for purchase, this year’s event had the single highest sale average in the 11-year history of the Superior Sale. Committee members and founders of the sale, Al Lehman and Dennis Bontrager, thanked all the consignors for having their horses in top order and trusting Superior to provide a great venue to sell them. SOUTHERN SADDLEBRED SUPPORTING GRASSROOTS LESSON PROGRAMS

Southern Saddlebred, in partnership with Equine Sports Council, has granted two lesson programs with a lesson horse each, provided by either Saddlebred Rescue or Dreamscape Rescue. The first recipient is Brian and Susan Reimer's Reimer Stables in Turin, Georgia. Susan is a veteran instructor and demonstrated a need for an additional beginner horse for her lesson program. “The Reimers are located outside Atlanta, which is an ‘underserved’ area for saddle seat riding,” said Jackie Hale. "We hope an additional beginner horse will cultivate new riders for them." USA EQUESTRIAN TRUST AWARDS ASHA GRANT FOR YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS

The American Saddlebred Horse Association has announced that it is the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the USA Equestrian Trust for its 2020 Youth Scholarships. The grant will allow the association to award two 2020 ASHA Youth Scholarships in addition to the scholarship monies it has already paid out to ASHA Youth Members and ASHA Finals Champions this year.   The USA Equestrian Trust is a private foundation dedicated to furthering the rich legacy of horses and equestrian sport. JLC JOINS COALITION OPPOSING COMPROMISE BILL TO PAST ACT

The Joint Leadership Council is joining a coalition that the American Horse Council put together to oppose a compromise bill being circulated in the Senate to amend the PAST Act, which was passed by the House of Representatives in 2019, and supported by the horse industry. The compromise bill includes substantial changes to the PAST Act that the horse industry cannot support as currently written. These changes include:  Eliminating references to the three horse breeds listed in the PAST Act, which include Tennessee Walking Horses, Spotted Saddle Horses and Racking Horses. Specific mention of “other horse breeds” that could expand the scope of regulation beyond the parameters of the PAST Act.

AMHA's 2021 BREED PROMOTION GRANT APPLICATION PERIOD IS OPEN

The application period for the 2021 Breed Promotion Grants opened on October 1, 2020. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, January 15, 2021, by 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The application, along with important information about the grant program, is at www.morganhorse.com under the Forms/Resources tab, Breed Promotional Materials, Request for Breed Promotion Grant. 2021 STALLION SWEEPS TO BENEFIT ASR FUTURITY OF KY YEARLING OPEN

The American Saddlebred Horse Association and the United Breeders Committee have announced that the Stallion Sweeps Program is back for 2021 and funds raised will benefit the American Saddlebred Registry Futurity of Kentucky Yearling Open at the 2021 Kentucky State Fair World's Championship Horse Show. The money raised will be added to the total prize money, increasing the take home for all placed yearlings first through eighth. ASR APPROVES ADDITIONAL SPORT HORSE CHAMPION DESIGNATION AND POINT PROGRAMS FOR DRESSAGE AND ENDURANCE

In the most recent American Saddlebred Registry board meeting, the Board voted to pass to expansion of the Champion Sport Horse program to add additional discipline specific designations and point programs for Dressage and Endurance. ASR BOARD VOTES TO APPROVE CHAMPION PROGRAM FOR HALF-SADDLEBRED SPORT HORSES

In the most recent American Saddlebred Registry board meeting, the attendees voted to pass to expansion of the Champion Sport Horse designation to include Half-Saddlebreds. The Champion Sport Horse Designation Program that was presented and developed by the ASHA Equine Welfare Advocacy Committed and passed this past July will be now be adapted by the ASR to also recognize registered Half-Saddlebreds. SUPERIOR MORGAN SALE ANNOUNCES NEW PROGRAM

The Directors of the Superior Morgan Sale have announced a new program for their 2020 sale and beyond. The Superior Sale has become the largest event of the year for the Amish Morgan breeding community, and the team is building an event fitting of that setting. This November, it will be launching the Superior Sweepstakes. The goal is to make this the most lucrative program for all Morgan breeders, Amish and English alike. With more than 80 stallions already entered, it is well on its way to achieving that goal. STALLION SERVICE AUCTION EARNS MORE THAN $66,000

Once again this year, the AMHECT/WMF Stallion Service Auction was held online during the Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show. There were 1,234 bids and $66,275 was raised for Morgan promotion, to support regional shows and show grants, and to help give money back to the stallion owners, to the winning foals, and to the handlers of those winners during the World Morgan Futurity. In addition, the first foal or foals of an actual service purchased at the AMHECT/WMF SSA to win a WMF Class World Championship will take home an additional $10,000 Auction Rewards Bonus. 2021 REGIONAL SHOW APPLICATIONS DUE OCT. 27

The American Morgan Horse Association is now accepting applications for 2021 Regional Show status. The application deadline is Tuesday, October 27, 2020. To learn about the requirements and benefits of being a Regional Show, read through the Regional Shows Handbook on the AMHA website by clicking on "read more" below.  IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR 2021 - PLEASE READ! Shows granted Regional status in 2020: No application is required for 2021 if a competition was approved as a 2020 Regional Show. GRAND NATIONAL TO RECOGNIZE BROODMARE HALL OF FAME PRODUCERS

In 2020, for the first time ever, the designation “Broodmare Hall Of Fame” is being included in results announced at Morgan Grand National. It is a program long in the making at American Morgan Horse Association to reward the importance of the mares who have contributed so significantly to the breed’s genepool. To be inducted into the Broodmare Hall Of Fame, a mare must be the dam of at least three world champions. Remarkably, research has shown that more than 60 mares qualify for the designation; two mares have produced seven world champions;  four have six; five have five; and 15 mares have produced four. AMHECT RECEIVES UPHA LEARNING CENTER GRANT

The American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust (AMHECT) has announced the receipt of a grant from the United Professional Horsemen’s Association that will cover all expenses of the 2020 AMHECT/UPHA Open Learning Gate Center offered right now during the Grand National & World Championship Horse Show being held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Oct. 10 through 17. The purpose of the Learning Center is to provide academic support to young riders, currently enrolled in grades 5–12, who are away from their local schools. ASHA NATIONAL SELECT SERIES REGION 1/2 CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE HELD AT VIVA LAS VEGAS

California Equine Foundation has announced that it will host the Viva Las Vegas Horse Show, October 29-31, at the South Point Equestrian Events Center. Complete details will be released as soon as possible regarding room reservations, etc. The show will use the same scheduling format as the cancelled California Saddle Horse Breeders Association Futurity Horse Show. MISDEE WRIGLEY MILLER TO REPRESENT U.S. AT 2020 FEI DRIVING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS FOUR-IN-HAND

US Equestrian has announced the horses-and-athlete combination who will compete at the 2020 FEI Driving World Championships Four-in-Hand, hosted in Valkenswaard, Netherlands, October 7-11, 2020. Misdee Wrigley Miller (Lakewood Ranch, Fla.) will represent the United States with her team of Corelone B, a 13-year-old KWPN gelding; Doorman, a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding; Alonso, an 11-year-old KWPN gelding; Zindgraaf, a 16-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding; and Daan 8, a 12-year-old KWPN gelding. The American Saddlebred Registry Hunter Sweepstakes is a prize program for one of the fastest-growing divisions on the circuit. This has proved the perfect program to compete with young Hunter Country Pleasure American Saddlebreds in the past two years. 2020 ASR 2-YEAR-OLD SWEEPSTAKES WINNERS FROM ASHAV

The 2020 Two-Year-Old Sweepstakes classes were held at the ASHAV Horse Show in Lexington, Virginia.  Eligible 2-year-old's were shown in Fine Harness or 3-Gaited.  The classes not only competed for American Saddlebred Registry Prize Program purses, but an additional $10,000 in added money that was split between the two sweepstakes.
