UPHA ANNOUNCES RIBBONS OF SERVICE CHANGES

The United Professional Horsemen's Association has announced changes to its Ribbons of Service program. In an effort to be more inclusive and expand the program, Academy riders/drivers now have the opportunity to participate in the program. Moreover, additional scholarships have been added for Academy and Arabian performance riders. The Ribbons of Service program now offers more than $43,000 in scholarship money to participants. Riders raising a minimum of $1,000 in donations and performing a minimum of 10 hours of community service are eligible to apply for the scholarships. New this year, the CA Gabriel Fund has graciously donated two $2,000 scholarships for Arabian performance participants 17 and younger and

AMHECT ANNOUNCES MORGAN SHOWS THAT WILL RECEIVE GRANTS

This year, 5 percent of the net from the AMHECT/World Morgan Futurity Stallion Service Auction was made available for the AMHA grant program for financially challenged Morgan competitions. The 2019 show grant recipients are C-Fair Charity Regional Show, Central Region Morgan Horse Show, Key Classic Benefit, Morgan Medallion Regional, New York State Breeders, Oregon Morgan Classic, Silver Cup, Southern States Regional, and Tri- State All Morgan Horse Show. AMHA EXPANDS DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIP OPTIONS FOR 2019

The American Morgan Horse Association has announced that the options for endurance riders at the 2019 National Distance Championship being held October 25-27, in Vinita, Oklahoma, have expanded. In addition to the 50-Mile National Championship, AMHA also will offer a 25-Mile National Championship. Awards also will be offered to the top 10 Morgan finishers of both the Competitive Trail Ride and the Limited Distance Challenge. The materials for the ride are currently being drafted and will be available soon. AMHA suggests riders start planning their qualifications as soon as they can. RIVER RIDGE '19 UPDATES

River Ridge Charity Horse Show has announced that the 2019 event, to be held at the Ohio State Fairgrounds from Wednesday, April 24 through Saturday, April 27, will be live streamed for free through Seehorse video at www.seehorsevideo.com. MORGAN WORLD LOSES ALEX MOONEY

National Horseman is sad to report that beloved member of the show horse community Alexandra Mooney passed away on April 1, after complications from cystic fibrosis. Although Alex had suffered from this disease for most of her life and was the recipient of two double lung transplants, she never allowed it to slow her down or prevent her from living life to the fullest. A lifelong lover of the Morgan horse, Alex was the epitome of a horsewoman, and she was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a horse trainer despite the challenges of her disease. SADDLEBRED WORLD LOSES JANET STERBA

The Saddlebred world lost a great lady when Janet Sterba passed away on March 29 after a private battle with cancer. Janet will be remembered for her bright smile, vivacious spirit, sense of humor and her many, many victory passes with her champion Saddlebreds, most recently with her beloved Fine Harness partner WCC CH Caraway’s New York Minute. National Horseman sends its condolences to Janet’s family, her Mercer Springs barn family, many friends, and all who knew and loved her.

VIRGINIA HORSE CENTER ANNOUNCES NEW COO

The Virginia Horse Center Foundation has announced its new chief operating officer, Kelley Douglas. Kelley replaces Leigh Anne Claywell, who left the foundation to return to Kentucky to accept the director of operations position at the United States Hunter Jumper Association. Kelley is a long-time supporter of the Virginia Horse Center, and exhibited here and worked at many of the events through the 1990s. She brings a wealth of experience in event management, is a nationally and internationally licensed show jumping judge, and has experience with multiple horse breeds and disciplines. UPHA OFFERS EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS ANNUALLY

The United Professional Horsemen's Association Maria Knight Scholarship was established to honor UPHA Professional, Maria Knight, and her commitment to providing a college education for her daughter. The scholarship is open to applicants who are high school seniors or those currently enrolled in college and planning on continuing their education. Applicants must have at least one parent, step-parent or legal guardian who is a professional horseman and a current Professional Member of UPHA. AHHS ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS FOR HALL OF FAME AWARD

The American Hackney Horse Society Awards Committee is now accepting nominations for the Lee and Beverly Dunn Hackney Hall of Fame Award. AMHA STAR-RATED RANCH COMPETITION TO BE HELD IN JUNE

Ranch horse competition enthusiasts are invited to the first ever American Morgan Horse Association Star-Rated Morgan Ranch Horse Competition at the All-Breed Ranch Horse Challenge, June 8-9 2019, in Billings, Montana. ASB MUSEUM LUNCHTIME LECTURE SERIES ANNOUNCES NEW SPEAKER

The American Saddlebred Museum Lunchtime Lecture Series will feature Dr. Amy Rock on Thursday, April 4, at 12:30 p.m. Dr. Rock will speak about horse health and the benefits of equine chiropractic for the show horse. She will address proper Veterinary Chiropractitioner practices, dispelling myths and misconceptions. Dr. Rock is a licensed and certified Veterinary Chiropractitioner in Kentucky and a published author on equine chiropractic. She has been showing and breeding American Saddlebred horses since 1980. UPDATE FROM THE WORLD'S CHAMPIONSHIP

The American Saddlebred Horse Association has been informed by the Kentucky State Fair Board that two additional training days have been approved for the 2019 World’s Championship Horse Show. Freedom Hall will be open on August 15-16 so competitors can prepare for the event. During those two days, the ring will close at both 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance and cleaning. There will be no additional days of classes added to the schedule. AMHA ISSUES REMINDER TO USDF ALL-BREEDS AWARD COMPETITORS

The American Morgan Horse Association is reminding competitors that it will acknowledge five placings in all categories in 2019 for the United States Dressage Foundation All-Breeds Awards. AMHA requires a $25 fee per horse paid to be declared eligible for the All-Breeds Awards, as several of the other breed associations already have in place to help defray the increasing costs that USDF is passing on to its affiliates. Additionally, AMHA requires that the owner of the horse be a Standard Level member of AMHA. AMERICAN SADDLEBRED REGISTRY RELEASES FOAL REPORT DETAILS

The American Saddlebred Registry recently mailed a Foal Report to all owners of mares that had a mare listed on a 2017 stallion service report. The report includes the name of the mare, and is requesting information about the result of the 2017 breeding, i.e. whether or not a foal resulted from this breeding. There is a section to be completed if a foal was born in 2018 and another section to be completed if there was no foal resulting from the 2017 breeding. MORGAN CLUB OFFERS YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP

A $1,000 scholarship contest is being offered to college students in Illinois and Wisconsin by the Mid-States Morgan Horse Club. Applicants must be age 17 to 21, a member of the American Morgan Horse Association and an Illinois or Wisconsin local AMHA club. Applicant also must have a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average. A 500-800 word essay written by the applicant on “What the Morgan Horse Has Done for Me” will be judged to establish the winner. Grammar, spelling and punctuation also will be judged. The Indianapolis Charity Horse Show will be held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Indiana, May 29-June 1. Simmons’ Stable Preservation Fund has been informed that the Nebraska Horse Show was scheduled for June 1, the same weekend as the International Saddlebred Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Everyone is invited to the Open House at the American Saddlebred Museum at the Kentucky Spring Premier Saturday, April 13, 2019, immediately following the last class of the horse show. UPHA CLASSICS PROGRAM SEEKING NOMINATIONS

The United Professional Horsemen's Association has announced that nominations for American Saddlebred, Hackney ponies and Morgan horses to the 2019 UPHA Classics Program are now open. The $100 eligibility fee will be accepted with a postmark on or before April 1, 2019. After April 1, the eligibility fee becomes $150 per nomination. The horse or pony must be nominated and the eligibility fee paid prior to competing in a UPHA Classics class. The owner, trainer and exhibitors must be current UPHA members. The Dixie Cup Spring Classic will be held May 2-4 at Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, Georgia. SANDRA CURRIER INDUCTED INTO TEXAS AMERICAN SADDLEBRED HALL OF FAME

The Texas (TASHA) & North Texas American Saddlebred Horse Associations (NTASHA), charter clubs of the American Saddlebred Horse Association, have announced that the 2018-19 inductee to the Texas American Saddlebred Hall of Fame will be Sandra Currier. AMHA CENTRAL REGION DIRECTOR REFUSES TO RESIGN

During the American Morgan Horse Association Board of Directors meeting on February 7, Finance Committee Chair Kate Kirsch made a statement regarding unexpected and unnecessary attorneys expenses and other costs caused by certain conduct of Vicki Bennett, one of three AMHA directors from the Central Region. Kirsch called on Bennett to resign as director. The following day at the February 8 annual meeting of members, a motion was made, seconded and voted on by Central Region members in attendance to request Bennett’s removal from her director’s seat. MID-AMERICA SPRING FLING RETURNS TO CEDAR RAPIDS, APR. 4-7

LICENSED OFFICIALS CLINIC CANCELED

The American Saddlebred Horse Association has announced that the licensed officials live clinic scheduled for March 14-16 in Scottsdale, Arizona, has been cancelled due to lack of registrants. It will be rescheduled this year and more information is forthcoming. -- via ASHA

IASHA Spring Warm-Up show will be held March 17-19, at Bar C Bar Expo Center in Cloverdale, Indiana. Show management has released some updates. ASB MUSEUM AND INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE HORSE PARTNER FOR LECTURE SERIES

The American Saddlebred Museum and International Museum of the Horse have announced a new Lunchtime Lecture Series. Join the Museums on the first Thursday of the month to learn about a wide variety of equine topics from an array of experts. The lecture location will alternate between institutions, both of which are located on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park. Lecture is free of charge, box lunches are available for $11 and includes sandwich, chips, fruit and drink. CENTRAL REGION MORGAN ANNOUNCES 2019 DATES

The Missouri Valley Morgan Horse Club will host its second Central Region Morgan Show on August 10-11, 2019, at the indoor Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. The all-Morgan show is American Morgan Horse Association Star Rated and USEF Competition Lite, and welcomes Dwayne Knowles as judge for the weekend. "We are looking forward to building on the success of our inaugural show last year and welcome all Morgan owners, trainers, and riders to the center of the country," says Jennifer Rawlinson, volunteer show manager. RIVER RIDGE UPDATES

The 75th River Ridge Horse Show will be held April 24-27, 2019, at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio. Show management has announced a few updates. Through the courtesy of a long-time supporter of the show, the winning trainers of three-gaited and five-gaited championships will receive a monetary award of $500. MORGAN STALLION SWEEPS WINNERS ANNOUNCED

The New England Morgan Horse Association and New England Regional Morgan Horse Show, in conjunction with the United Breeders Committee, have announced the first winners of the Morgan Stallion Sweeps. In its inaugural year, the program was a resounding success. All funds raised in this program will be used to promote Morgan horse breeding. RUNWAY AND RESCUE FASHION SHOW A SUCCESS

The Runway and Rescue Fashion Show was a huge success with more than 200 attendees filling Churchill Downs Starting Gate Suite on Friday, February 15, 2019. American Saddlebred Museum board member Carson Kressley welcomed guests and introduced the spring fashions, inspired by the Kentucky Derby from Louisville based, Rodeo Drive. Executive Director Jennifer Foster said of the evening, “Churchill Downs was the perfect venue for this event! We are so pleased to work with Rodeo Drive to preview this year’s spring styles.” Models from the Saddlebred community lit up the runway with day wear, wear to work fashion, cocktail and evening gowns. ASR SWEEPSTAKES INFORMATION AND UPDATES

The American Saddlebred Registry Sweepstakes Committee has announced that the 2021, 2022 and 2023 ASR Three-Year-Old Sweepstakes classes will be held at the All American Horse Classic Horse Show (AAHC) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Based on the results from the recent survey asking participants and members to vote on a show location for these classes, over 80 percent voted for the All American Horse Classic. “Thank you to the ASR Sweepstakes Committee for their confidence in the AAHC; and thank you to the many breeders, exhibitors and trainers for their public vote of support. AMHA ANNOUNCES 2018 STAR AWARD OVERALL WINNERS

The five Overall Division Award winners for the American Morgan Horse Association's Star Awards were announced Saturday, February 9, in San Antonio, Texas, at the AMHA awards banquet, held in conjunction with its annual convention. In its first year, the Star Awards is a free program for AMHA members and was created to increase participation at Morgan competitions, to provide an exciting venue for the awards presentation at the AMHA Convention, and to foster good will and sportsmanship.
