ASB MUSEUM LUNCHTIME LECTURE SERIES CONTINUES

The American Saddlebred Museum and International Museum of the Horse continue their Lunchtime Lecture partnership into the summer. Join the Museums on the first Thursday of the month to hear an array of experts speak on equine related topics. The lecture location alternates between institutions, both of which are located on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park. The lecture is free of charge, and box lunches are available for $11. AMHA ADOPTS NEW HORSE DIAGRAMS

The American Morgan Horse Association Registry Committee voted during their January meeting to adopt new horse diagrams to include the front and rear views of the legs. These new additions will help breeders and owners more accurately record their Morgan’s markings with the registry. The new forms are available on the AMHA website and owners/breeders are asked to use these updated applications. -- via AMHA

VIRGINIA HORSE CENTER PLANNING STATE-OF-THE-ART RIDING ARENA

The Virginia Horse Center Foundation (VHCF), together with CEO John Nicholson, has announced the planned renovation of what is now known as the Fletcher Arena and the “postage stamp” warm-up area. The project is fully funded and scheduled for completion by spring 2020. Last year Janine Malone, a VHCF advisory board member, accomplished dressage judge, and long-time friend of the Virginia Horse Center (VHC), approached board president Gardy Bloemers with an interest in raising funds to replace the Fletcher Arena footing. JOE CRAWFORD HARROD MEMORIAL GRANT APPLICATIONS TO BE ACCEPTED JUNE 1-30

The American Hackney Horse Society has announced that applications for the Joe Crawford Harrod Memorial Grant will be accepted from June 1 to June 30, 2019. The Joe Crawford Harrod Memorial Grant has been established to support active youth members of the American Hackney Horse Society, aged 18-26, with a desire to strengthen their horsemanship skills. Funds may be used for education, participation in a horse show, or any show horse industry program. The grant will be awarded annually. SADDLE & BRIDLE'S HUNTER SEAT CLASSIC RULES UNCHANGED

In light of some confusion at recent horse shows, "Saddle & Bridle Magazine" reminds judges and competitors that the rules for the Hunter Seat Classic have not changed.  Horses in qualifying classes, as well as in the finals, are required to perform the following gaits: walk, trot, extended trot, canter and hand gallop. They also are required to halt and stand on the rail in both directions, and stand quietly and back readily in the line-up. Horses are not required to back on the rail. SOUTHEASTERN CHARITY TO OFFER EQUINE WELFARE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE RESCUE HORSE CLASS

US Equestrian has announced that the application period for the 2019 Youth Sportsman’s Award is now open. 2019 NMMH STATE BUCKET AUCTION LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS

The National Museum of the Morgan Horse (NMMH) is searching for volunteers for its annual state bucket auction, which will take place at the 2019 Grand National & World Championship Horse Show. It's calling for people from all 50 states, Washington D.C. and Canada. This year, the proceeds will support the brand new Museum Exhibit at Pineland Farms located in New Gloucester, Maine. ASB MUSEUM ANNOUNCES DATE FOR EQUINE ART, ANTIQUE AND RARE BOOK AUCTION

The American Saddlebred Museum has announced that the highly anticipated Equine Art, Antique and Rare Book Auction will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 11 a.m. The American Saddlebred Museum is located at 4083 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, Kentucky, on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park. AMHA'S SECOND-QUARTER BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

Below are highlights from the American Morgan Horse Association Board of Directors Second Quarter Meeting, which took place April 6, 2019, in Portland, Maine. BYLAWS: Carol Fletcher, Committee Chair, reported on the recent activities of the Bylaws Committee. The Committee presented phase two of the Standard Operating Procedures project (SOP’s). A redline of the 2019 Directors’ guide that incorporated Standard Operating Procedures A1, A6, A7, A9, A11, A25, A34 and A36 was approved allowing the elimination of those SOPs since they are now listed within this AMHA document. In addition, it was determined that adherence to the Safe Sport policy would also added to the text of the Directors Guide.&n

AMERICAN SADDLEBREDS TO BE FEATURED AT LAND ROVER KENTUCKY THREE-DAY

The American Saddlebred Horse Association will exhibit the breed at the prestigious Land Rover Kentucky Three Day Event by US Equestrian. AMERICAN SADDLEBRED REGISTRY NOW OFFERING MICROCHIPS

The American Saddlebred Registry has announced that it will be offering Datamars Equine Slim microchips for purchase. Microchipping is not a Registry requirement. Datamars microchips also are being used by the American Jockey Club, Turkish Jockey Club, and the Dutch Stud Book. The price for one microchip is $17.50, two to 10 are $15 each, and 11 or more are $12.50 each. The ASR will record microchip numbers in its database upon receipt of the properly completed microchip recording form that will be mailed with the microchip. Once recorded in the database, the microchip number will automatically appear on the horse’s registration certificate at the time of printing and und

AHHS NATIONAL BREEDERS' FUTURITY UPDATES

The American Hackney Horse Society Board of Directors has announced that during the Board Meeting on March 9, it voted to add $15,000 to the Futurity program again this year. The $15,000 will be added into the prize money for the payouts of each class. The Board of Directors, along with the National Breeders' Futurity Committee, also announced that AHHS will offer a buy in program for the 2019 National Breeders' Futurity. Midwest Charity Horse Show is to be held June 11-15, 2019, in Springfield, Illinois, at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. The Board of Directors is putting the finishing touches on its 78th annual show. The American Hackney Horse Society has announced as a reminder that the qualifying period for the 2019 Kentucky State Fair is July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019. All ponies must qualify to compete in the Adult Amateur and Junior Exhibitor Hackney Show Pleasure Driving Divisions of the Kentucky State Fair World’s Championship Horse Show. AHHS DISCONTINUES OPEN COMPETITION PROGRAM

The American Hackney Horse Society Board of Directors, at its March 9, 2019, Board meeting, voted to discontinue the Open Competition Program. The OCP will be replaced with The Buck Stops Here incentive program. It is the Board’s belief the Hackney Bucks program is more beneficial to the exhibitors who show at open shows or in non-traditional disciplines. Exhibitors who show a Hackney can earn Hackney Bucks by exhibiting their Hackney in open classes at all-breed shows that do not offer Hackney classes, and/or by competing with their Hackney in non-traditional disciplines. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP NAMED FOR ALEX MOONEY

The show committee for the Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show has announced that a $5,000 annual memorial scholarship has been created in Alex Mooney's name. Details will be forthcoming. Alex Mooney passed away on April 2 at the age of 26. Her love for the Morgan horse and all the people in that community was legendary, and in return, she received so much love. MORGAN MEDALLION CLASSIC ANNOUNCES CHANGES

The Morgan Medallion Classic has changed both its dates and location for the 2019 show. It will now take place July 18-21, at the South Point Arena and Equestrian Center, located in Las Vegas, Nevada. TIME TO RIDE LAUNCHES 2019 PILOT PROGRAM

Time To Ride, a program of the American Horse Council's Marketing Alliance, is now accepting applications for its 2019 pilot program. The new Time To Ride program is designed to introduce school-age children to horseback riding and horse care in a safe, welcoming environment. The goal is to familiarize school-age children with horses through an initial series of lessons that include basic horse care as well as riding. SPRING FLING ALL-BREEDS SHOW TO BE HELD IN MID-APRIL

The Spring Fling All-Breeds Horse Show will be held April 19-21, at Calnash Trucking Ag Centre in Ponoka, Alberta, Canada. Spring Fling is the first of the 2019 season in this area, giving horse and rider an opportunity to shake off the cobwebs, clean some tack and get into the swing of showing. ASR FUTURITIES MARE AND STALLION NOMINATION DEADLINE IS APRIL 15

The deadline to nominate mares and stallions for 2019 foals to the American Saddlebred Registry Kentucky, Kentucky Amateur and National 3-Year-Old Futurities is Monday, April 15, 2019. AMERICAN SADDLEBRED REGISTRY FOAL REPORT DETAILS

The American Saddlebred Registry recently mailed a Foal Report to all owners of mares that had a mare listed on a 2017 stallion service report. The report includes the name of the mare, and is requesting information about the result of the 2017 breeding, i.e. whether or not a foal resulted from this breeding. There is a section to be completed if a foal was born in 2018, and another section to be completed if there was no foal resulting from the 2017 breeding. The goal of the Registry is to use the information that mare owners provide to increase foal registrations by following up on foals that have been born but not registered.  The information that is provided will also help to determine conception rates as relat

AMERICAN SADDLEBRED REGISTRY ANNOUNCES REGISTRATION AMNESTY EXTENSION

Due to the overwhelming response to the March amnesty program, the Registry has announced that amnesty will be extended through April 30, 2019, for applications for registration. This one-time extension is for all horses older than 12 months, for which a $100 registration fee will apply. Normal registration fees are $200 for horses 12 months to 24 months and $300 for horses 24 months and older. All other pertinent fees apply, i.e. $50 DNA kit fee, $65 unregistered foal transfer fee if applicable, etc. Note, in order to be eligible for the amnesty rate the sire and dam of the horse being registered must be registered with the American Saddlebred Registry and all necessary signatures, documents and fees

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED BY ASHA

This August at the World’s Championship Horse Show, the American Saddlebred Horse Association will award three $5,000 Foundation scholarships to deserving youth involved with American Saddlebred horses. In addition, two $5,000 memorial scholarships in memory of John Biggins, will be awarded to deserving youth who intend to pursue a career in the Saddlebred industry. These scholarships are available to any member of ASHA, age 21 and under, and at grade 11 or higher. Scholarships will be awarded to high school graduates or those students whose graduation is imminent, based on academic success, financial need, extracurricular activities, involvement with American Saddlebred horses, and personal references. WORLD'S CHAMPIONSHIP '19 UPDATES

The Kentucky State Fair World’s Championship Horse Show is introducing two new concepts for this year’s show to enhance the experience of the participants. Management will be offering a limited number of VIP tables that will be located in Sections 318, 319 and 320. They will be available for purchase with eight seats directly behind the table. There are plans for a buffet to be located in the Peck Hickman Room, which is directly behind this area and will be available for those who have purchased the tables. This will give those from a barn the opportunity to sit together and enjoy the show.
