MIDWEST BREEDERS JACKPOT CLASS UPDATES

The Minnesota Limited Breeder’s Futurity and Minnesota Saddlebred Horse Association have announced updates to the Midwest Breeders’ Jackpot class held at the 2019 Minnesota Futurity horse show. The class is now open to all 3- and 4-year-old American Saddlebreds registered by breeders in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota or Wisconsin. In addition to entry fees collected for the class, the Minnesota Saddlebred Horse Association has committed to adding $50 to the jackpot for each horse nominated to the Midwest Breeders Jackpot Class. ASHA MEETS WITH LAWMAKERS ON SAFE SPORT

The American Saddlebred Horse Association leaders last week met with lawmakers as part of the organization’s commitment to the safety of the youth, and to address concerns about the U.S. Center for SafeSport. “We strongly support what the Safe Sport Act represents for the protection of our junior exhibitors,” said ASHA president David Mount. “We also firmly believe the enforcement of this law through the U.S. Center for SafeSport can be significantly improved to better protect youth while providing fair processes to our members.” As part of ASHA’s ongoing work on this important issue, Mount; ASHA Executive Director Terri Dolan; and newly elected ASHA Board member Helena Moreno

ASHA YOUTH LUNCHEON TO BE HOSTED DURING LEXINGTON JUNIOR LEAGUE

The American Saddlebred Horse Association has announced this year's ASHA Youth Luncheon, which will be sponsored by Elisabeth Goth and held during the Lexington Junior League Horse Show. The luncheon will be Thursday, July 11, at the American Saddlebred Museum, immediately following the last class of the morning session. The theme this year is "Saddle Up," and attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their best western attire. SIGNATURE HORSE SHOW TO BE HELD IN LATE JULY

Mid-America Horse Show Association (MAHSA) will host the 2019 Signature Horse Show at Ledges Sporting Horse Stables in Roscoe, Illinois, July 26-28, 2019. Cindy Zubrod Boel will be the show judge. The MAHSA goal for the 2019 Signature Horse Show is to produce a summer season horse show with the charm of an old-fashioned outdoor horse show. USEF DRUG AND MEDICATION GUIDELINES

US Equestrian has recently updated its online Drugs & Medications Guidelines. Representatives of the Joint Leadership Council (ASHA, AMHA, AHHS, UPHA, ARHPA) have been working with USEF to make modifications to these guidelines that ensure the welfare and safety of horses and athletes, while recognizing that new technological advancements offer more flexibility than in the past. The recent amendments will help veterinarians, in their role as guardians of the horse, to assist their clients in responsible management of their horses when competing under USEF rules and regulations. The Massachusetts Morgan Horse Association (MMHA) is offering the Anna Ela Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 to a worthy recipient. CENTRAL REGION MORGAN SHOW TO BE HELD IN AUGUST

On Saturday and Sunday, August 10-11, the Missouri Valley Morgan Horse Club will host the second Central Region Morgan Show at the indoor Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, now in the larger Amy Countryman arena with connected warm-up and top-notch lighting for photos. The American Saddlebred Horse Association of Michigan has announced the creation of the Frances Dodge Amateur Sportsmanship Award. This award will be presented each year by ASHAM during the ASHAM Charity Fall Horse Show, and given in honor of Frances Dodge to a current amateur ASHAM member who exhibits exceptional sportsmanship both in and out of the show ring. AMHA CREATES BROODMARE HALL OF FAME

In conjunction with "The Morgan Horse" magazine, the American Morgan Horse Association has announced the creation of the Morgan Broodmare Hall of Fame. AMHA has conducted extensive research into mares who have produced world champions since the first Grand National in 1973. The bar has been set high for inclusion; an inductee must have produced three world champions. It is significant in that currently, more than 60 mares are eligible for this designation. Records will be updated annually with more mares being nominated for inclusion. LEARNING CENTER TO BE HELD AT 2019 GRAND NATIONAL

The American Morgan Horse Association has announced it has once again partnered with the United Professional Horsemen’s Association and the Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show to offer the Open Gate Learning Center. The Open Gate Learning Center is an on-site study and learning center for young equestrians who are competing at the horse show, which will take place in Oklahoma City, October 12-19, 2019. The purpose of the Learning Center is to provide academic support to young exhibitors, grades 5-12, who are away from their local schools. The center will be available to students from Oct. 12-19. Participants can stay abreast of their academic requirements by providing a structured learning environment.

ASB MUSEUM ART AUCTION A SUCCESS

  The Kentucky rain did not keep people from away from the exciting Equine Art, Antique and Rare Book Auction on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the American Saddlebred Museum. The auction was a success, with people from the Saddlebred community as well as the local Lexington area attending the event in person. In addition, the Museum had many phone bidders from across the country who kept bidding active. Auction guests enjoyed a brunch as well as the company of friends. SAFESPORT YOUTH TRAINING COURSES LAUNCHING WEEK OF JUNE 12

SHENANDOAH CLASSIC '19 UPDATES

The arrival of horses and ponies at the Virginia Horse Center will begin on Sunday June 16 as exhibitors will begin to prepare for this annual event from all over the country. The Shenandoah Classic Horse Show starts on Wednesday June 19, 2019, and goes through Saturday June 22, 2019. YAA JUDGING SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION NOW AVAILABLE

The American Morgan Horse Association Young Adult Alliance (YAA), a group of professionals and amateurs working together to strengthen the Morgan breed, has announced the opening of applications for its annual judging school scholarship. ASHA STALLION SWEEPS ADDS PAYOUTS TO ASR AFFILIATE STATE FUTURITIES

The American Saddlebred Horse Association Stallion Sweeps Committee has announced that a total of $31,950 from the 2018-2019 Stallion Sweeps ticket sales will be added to the prize money payouts for State Futurities affiliated with American Saddlebred Registry.  The distribution of the added prize money for each futurity from the ASHA Stallion Sweeps program was based on the ticket sales form last year. The American Saddlebred Museum will host its Equine Art, Antique and Rare Book Auction on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the American Saddlebred Museum, located at 4083 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, Kentucky on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park. An auction preview will take place at the Museum from June 3-7, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and on June 8 two hours before the auction. RULE FORUMS TO BE HELD AT AMHA REGIONAL SHOWS

The American Morgan Horse Association has announced that rule forums will be scheduled at each of the AMHA Regional Horse Shows to review the pending US Equestrian rule proposals that would establish a Morgan Ranch horse section within the Morgan Division rules. Each forum is being run by either a US Equestrian Morgan Committee member, an AMHA Board Member or other representative familiar with the rule change process. The American Morgan Horse Association has announced its second regional show of the season is about to begin. Presented by the Virginia-Carolinas Morgan Horse Club, the 47th Annual Southern States Regional Morgan Horse Show will take place at the James B. TITLE SPONSOR ANNOUNCED FOR ASHA EQUINE WELFARE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE RESCUE HORSE CLASS

The American Saddlebred Horse Association Equine Welfare Advocacy Committee has partnered with the Ruxer Foundation as the title sponsor for the inaugural season of its Rescue Horse Class. This class is open to American Saddlebreds of all disciplines, with or without registration papers, who have been rescued. The Ruxer Foundation has a history of supporting the breed as well as those in need. The United Professional Horsemen's Association Dewey Henderson Benevolent Fund was initially started with a grant from the Ruxer Foundation, and the Foundation has generously supported the ASHA in the past. UPHA REPRESENTATIVES TRAVEL TO WASHINGTON DC TO SUPPORT PAST ACT

  United Professional Horsemen's Association Representatives Frankie Trull, Jennifer Dixon, Tammie Conatser and Donna Pettry-Smith traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with congressmen and staff regarding the reintroduction of the PAST Act in the House of Representatives in January. The trip was organized as one of the action items to be implemented under the guidance of Frankie Trull, who was instrumental in mobilizing the strategic plan that helped the UPHA Task Force fight the USDA's proposed changes to the Horse Protection Act in 2016.
