SADDLEBREDS TO BENEFIT FROM RUNWAY AND RESCUE FASHION SHOW

On Saturday March 14, 2015, Rodes of Louisville will be producing an eye-popping runway show featuring the trendiest and most eye-catching men’s and women’s fashions. The event will benefit both the American Saddlebred Museum and Saddlebred Rescue.   Rodes is a 100 year old family-owned apparel business in Louisville, Kentucky, with ties to the Saddlebred world. The store is now being run by the 4th generation of that family. Officially called Rodes - for Him · for Her, it offers high end, head to toe dressing for both men and women. ASB MUSEUM'S 2015 EQUINE ART AUCTION TO FEATURE ONLINE BIDDING

For the first time ever, the American Saddlebred Museum’s Equine Art, Antique and Rare Book Auction will feature online bidding.  Liveauctioneers.com, a site that has carved a niche in equine artwork, will host online bidding for the event.  “This enhancement should help our consignors items reach a worldwide audience of horse enthusiasts, as well as realize the maximum value,” said Tolley Graves, auction coordinator. “The site will host our auction catalog, post our auction dates and notify those buyers interested in equine art.”   The Museum is now accepting consignments to be considered for inclusion in the 2015 version of the event.  The auction will be held on Saturda

SADDLEBRED WORLD LOSES DICK WALLEN

Richard Francis "Dick" Wallen, 93, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center, after a second hip replacement, followed by several health complications. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Roger Linnan will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. SADDLEBRED WORLD LOSES NANCY FORTNER

Nancy M. Fortner, age 51, of Brunswick, GA, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015. Nancy was a native of Augusta and earned her BS from the Medical College of Georgia in 1986. She worked as a radiation therapist at MCG then later at Southeast Georgia Health Systems Brunswick Campus. Nancy loved horses and was a member of the American Saddlebred Association. She was also a member of CenterPoint Church in Brunswick. She is survived by her former husbands, Greg Fortner of Statesboro and Keith Ingram of Augusta; a brother, George Morrell, Jr. of Augusta and a niece, Hanna Morrell of Augusta. A memorial service was held Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Jim

SADDLEBRED WORLD LOSES LEON RICHARDSON

Tommy Leon Richardson - age 67 of Lenoir City, passed away Wednesday evening, December 31, 2014 at his home. He attended of Hickory Valley Baptist Church and was the owner of Richardson Stables. Leon was a member of ASHA, ETSA and a Hall of Fame member of the National Racking Horse Association. His parents, John and Lillie Novella Richardson, preceded him in death. Leon is survived by his wife, Deborah Richardson and son, Tommy Richardson.           In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Saddlebred Museum, 4083 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, KY 40511.

SADDLEBRED WORLD LOSES BUCK DAVIS

T. Lynn "Buck" Davis, III, 62, passed away Monday, January 05, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family. 

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the John Henry Clance Sunday School Class at Lizella Baptist Church, 2950 South Lizella Road, Macon 31052 or to Ronald McDonald House of Central Georgia, 1160 Forsyth Street, Macon 31201.

Mr. Davis, son of the late T. Lynn Davis, Jr., was a lifelong resident of Macon and a graduate of Monroe Academy, and had served for five years on their Board of Directors. ASHA ANNOUNCES NEW SADDLEBRED AMBASSADOR AWARDS PROGRAM

Michele Macfarlane and friends kicked off the new year---and a new program----by earning 30 points toward becoming the Region 1 Champion Saddlebred Ambassador, when they showcased their beautiful American Saddlebreds in the Tournament of Roses Parade. Individuals, barn groups, or charter clubs will be able to earn points as well, while introducing the American Saddlebred to the public in a variety of ways.
 
ASHA is excited to announce that there will be recognition and rewards for our breed's top Ambassadors, both regionally and on a national level.  So many Saddlebred owners have already spent time and money tirelessly sharing the breed with the public, and the ASHA would like to recognize these efforts.

DATES AND LOCATION SET FOR UPHA CHAPTER 5

Building on great back-to-back years in 2013 and 2014, including the 2013 UPHA Chapter Horse Show of the Year award, the UPHA Chapter 5 Horse Show will once again be held in Kansas City in Hale Arena. SADDLEBRED WORLD LOSES LARRY VINCENT GILPIN

Larry Vincent Gilpin - Southern gentleman, cowboy, snappy dresser, maverick, coach, world traveler, artist, UK Wildcat basketball devotee, sport car enthusiast, and oldies and country tunes lover. Larry was born on September 8, 1943, in Benton, Illinois, (raised there and Horse Cave, Kentucky), and died on January 1, 2015. He is survived by his soul mate of 49 years, Daryl "Dude" Gilpin; children Valory, Lana, Scott and Lorra (Brett); grandchildren Skye, Sam, Sommer, McCullough, Lucas, Ivey, Dylan, Beau, Anabelle and Gabriella; and great grandchild, Leo. Larry is also survived by his brother, Terry Gilpin, nieces Alexandra (Anthony) and Elise (Stephen), sister-in-law Neila Darnaby, niece Liz (Kent) and Benjamin (Shorie).
