FREEDMAN’S TO HOST SADDLE DRAWING IN $100,000 CLASS

At the 2014 US National Arabian & Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show in Tulsa, OK, Freedman’s will be holding a drawing for a World Cup Super Grip Saddle.  On Saturday October 25, the Top 10 winners of the Arabian English Performance Association, Arabian Horse Times $100,000 Arabian Saddle Seat Futurity will be pooled together and the trainer of the horse whose name gets drawn will win the saddle everyone is talking about.  The World Cup Super Grip Saddle is the official saddle of the AEPA and is being offered as a prize for this prestigious class for the first time.

KIERSON KAVALIERS PARTNER WITH ONE SIMPLE WISH

          The Kierson Kavaliers, Kierson Farm’s youth group, hosted a mini camp day for the kids of One Simple Wish on September 13, 2014. One Simple Wish is a national organization that helps grant wishes for children in foster care in America. Any child in foster care can submit a wish – big or small – and One Simple Wish reaches out to its benefactors to help grant that wish. One Simple Wish also helps provide clothes, personal care items and toys to help with the transition from home to home, provides a pop-up prom boutique, and helps to provide new experiences to those in the foster care system.

KENTUCKY FALL CLASSIC TO OFFER $2500 JACKPOT STAKES

          The annual Kentucky Fall Classic is scheduled for October 1-4 at the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucy. 2014 ASR FUTURITIES DECLARATION OF INTENT TO SHOW DEADLINE APPROACHING QUICKLY

          The deadline to submit a Declaration of Intent to Show for the 2014 ASR Futurities is 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 17. 2015 SADDLE SEAT YOUNG RIDER TEAMS ANNOUNCED

          The USEF is proud to announce the selection of the 2015 U.S. Saddle Seat Young Riders Teams. A total of 63 applications were received from around the country. For 2015, athletes were selected to compete on teams for two international competitions. The Travel team will compete in an Invitational in South Africa and the Home team will compete at an Invitational in the United States. After an extensive review, the following 24 riders were selected to be part on the 2015 US Saddle Seat Young Riders Teams.

SHOW HORSE WORLD LOSES LOUISE "WEE ZEE" MINER

          Longtime National Horseman cartoonist Louise “WeeZee” passed away on July 15 surrounded by loved ones. She was a beloved member of the show horse community and a longtime supporter of the breed.
          She fought her battle courageously and on her terms until the end. She was preceded in death by parents, Harold and Edna, and her brother, Dick. She is survived by sister, Gloria (Ray); brother, George (Marlene), nephews and nieces and many special friends.

US SWEEPS GOLD MEDALS AT 2014 SADDLE SEAT WORLD CUP

          On Friday, July 25, the 2014 Saddle Seat World Cup concluded with the United States repeating their 2012 performance, sweeping the top podium positions in the competition and taking home Gold Medals in both the Three-Gaited and Five-Gaited sections. Throughout the competition, held July 22-July 25 as part of the Blue Ridge Classic Horse Show, riders performed rail and pattern work in front of the judging panel made up of David Brent (CAN), Michael Craghead (USA), and Hugo Visser (RSA).

KSF FAIR BOARD PRESIDENT’S RESPONSE TO WCHS PAY-PER-VIEW CONCERNS

          At its May meeting, the Kentucky State Fair Board voted to implement this live pay-per-view and the delayed free recordings. It is the Board’s intent that the pay-per-view allow the WCHS to be produced at the level of quality that we all expect, especially in light of steadily declining attendance and revenue in each of the preceding ten (10) years coupled with rising production costs.

AMHA ANNOUNCES MORGAN JUDGING SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP

SADDLEBRED RESCUE TO HOLD ANNUAL FUNDRAISER DURING LOUISVILLE

          Saddlebred Rescue Inc.’s annual fundraising event will be held at Crowne Plaza Louisville on August 21 to benefit the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of saddle horses at risk. As in years past, this fundraiser will take place during the World’s Championship Horse Show. Because of fundraisers like this, the volunteers and supporters of SBR have been able to help well over 800 horses since 2006.

CAITLIN BEVINS WINS USEF SADDLE SEAT ADULT AMATEUR MEDAL FINAL

          A field of 10 competitors kicked off the Wednesday evening session at Lexington Junior League in the USEF Saddle Seat Adult Amateur Medal Final on July 9. At the end of the class, Caitlin Bevins made history with her winning ride. Caitlin, of Rotterdam, New York, rode her and Tamra Lynch's Morgan, The Wizard, to top honors under the tutelage of Jaisen Von Ballmoos. Her win was especially exciting because she is the first in the 14-year history of the Final to ever win while riding a Morgan. The win was all the more meaningful for Caitlin as she has owned "Oz" since he was 4 years old.

          The country's best adult amateur Saddle Seat Equitation riders are ready to compete in the USEF Saddle Seat Adult Amateur Medal Final. Lexington Junior League will host the USEF Championship on Wednesday, July 9. COURTNEY BALL WINS SADDLE SEAT WORLD CUP VIDEO CONTEST GRAND PRIZE

           For the past few weeks, votes have been cast at USEFNetwork.com for 10 Saddle Seat World Cup Video Contest finalists. The votes, cast by the general public, have now been tallied and Courtney Ball of Scottsdale, Arizona, has won the Grand Prize.
          The contest began with more than 40 videos submitted by saddle seat riders from across the United States. The videos had to be less than one minute long and answer the question, "What would it mean to you to be on a Saddle Seat World Cup team?" AMHA FORMS TASK FORCE TO EXAMINE HORSE SHOW INDUSTRY

                In recent years, many have lamented about light entries at horse shows and the overall health of the horse show industry. Based upon these remarks and feedback from show committees and exhibitors, AMHA President, Jeff Gove, appointed a cross-functional task force in May to examine ideas and develop potential solutions for invigorating and ensuring healthy shows. KEN LOGAN PASSES AWAY

                Kenneth M. Logan, Jr. of Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, formerly of Braintree, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving and devoted family on May 31 at the age of 53. He was the beloved husband of Kristin B. Logan and the loving father of Brittany Logan and Jacqueline Logan, both of Braintree, and Madison Logan of Hampton Falls. He was also the dear son of Margery J. and Kenneth M. Logan, Sr. of Braintree, and the devoted brother of Michelle Milroy of Plymouth, Gregory Logan of Kingston, and Heather Brunstrom of Plymouth. NEBRASKA CHARITY POSTPONED

            The presence of the EVH-1 virus has been a concern in the Midwest. In order to maintain the integrity of the Nebraska Charity Horse Show and in deference to the safety of our horses, the Board of Directors of the Nebraska Charity Horse Show has postponed the show until 2015.
            Thank you to our loyal exhibitors and sponsors for their support, encouragement and positive feedback as we reached this decision. The search is now underway for 2014 United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Youth Sportsman's Award nominees. This award recognizes young equestrians who exhibit exceptional leadership potential, serve as positive role models for their peers, demonstrate an ongoing commitment and dedication to the promotion of equestrian sport, are involved in their communities, and exemplify positive sportsmanship principles.

The overall winner of the 2014 USEF Youth Sportsman's Award will receive a $1,000 grant payable to the educational program of his/her choice, USEF Life Membership valued at $2,500, and a commemorative trophy. WIN A SADDLE IN THE 2014 US SADDLE SEAT WORLD CUP VIDEO CONTEST

Riders between the ages of 13-18 have the chance to win a saddle by creating a short video (less than 1 minute long) answering the question, “What would it mean to you to be on a Saddle Seat World Cup team?” Videos must be amateur-filmed, may not exceed one minute in length, must incorporate a horse in some way, and must be saved with the entrant’s full name in the title and uploaded to Dropbox. The video link must be submitted on the application page on usef.org. Video applications will be accepted until May 19.

GAYLE LAMPE ANNOUNCES RIDING CLINICS

Gayle Lampe is conducting two saddle seat riding clinics at William Woods University on June 26-29 and August 7-10. Riders will ride twice on two days and three times on two days. Barn visits to saddle horse training stables in the area and a variety of lectures will be included.  A maximum of five riders will be accepted at one time. MID-SOUTH SPRING PREMIERE ANNOUNCES JUDGING CHANGE

APPLICATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR 2015 U.S. SADDLE SEAT YOUNG RIDERS TEAMS

           The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2015 US Saddle Seat Young Riders Teams. The teams have been created to help develop riders for future U.S. Saddle Seat World Cup Teams, and in 2015, USEF will be fielding teams for two international competitions. One team will travel to South Africa for an Invitational and one team will compete at an Invitational in the United States. MIDWEST CHARITY ADDS CLASSES TO SCHEDULE

         Midwest Charity Horse Show, held June 10-14 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, with daily show times of 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., has added three classes to the regular schedule because of their popularity last year. Classes include class 55, Five-Gaited, Amateur Masters; class 30, ASB Five-Gaited Pleasure, Masters; and class 156 ASB Five-Gaited Pleasure, Masters Championship. The Masters Five-Gaited Pleasure and Championship were two of the biggest and most exciting classes of the show.
        Fast approaching is Midwest’s entry deadline of May 1. As always, post entries are accepted. The 2014 prize list is available on the website at midwestcharity.com.

AMERICAN SADDLEBRED WORLD LOSES DR. SALLY HAYDON

            Dr. Sally Ann Haydon, 55, died Saturday, April 12. Sally was born on February 10, 1959 to Charles Haydon and the late Jane Montgomery Haydon in Versailles, Kentucky. Sally was President and Founder of the Intercollegiate Saddle Seat Riding Association, Inc. (ISSRA), owner of Bluegrass Riding Academy, Professor and Chair of Equine Studies and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Midway College, and a former board member of The Cleveland Home. She was also a member of Midway Christian Church. In addition to her father, she is survived by 3 sisters, Charlene Haydon and Amy (Mike) Turner, both of Versailles, and Pam (Ray) Paulin, of Winston Salem, North Carolina.

ASR KENTUCKY, KENTUCKY AMATEUR AND NATIONAL 3-YEAR-OLD FUTURITIES STALLION AND MARE NOMINATIONS DUE BY APRIL 25

            The grace period deadline to nominate mares and stallions for 2014 foals is Friday, April 25. Nomination forms must be postmarked, faxed or e-mailed on or before April 25. Mare owners should check with stallion owners to ensure a stallion will be properly nominated.

UPHA CHAPTER 5 ANNOUNCES TRAINER’S JACKPOT

            The Board of the UPHA Chapter 5 Horse Show and AMP Horse Show Services are pleased to announce a Trainer’s Jackpot at the 2014 edition, held May 7-10 at the Hale Arena in Kansas City, Missouri. Borrowing from the success of UPHA Chapter 3/4 at the Madison Classic, Chapter 5 will be offering a $100 cash prize at the end of each evening session. ASHA YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE APPROACHING

            The ASHA Youth Scholarship Application deadline is Wednesday, April 30. The Scholarship Application is available on the ASHA website.

DISASTER ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE FOR HORSE FARMS AND RANCHES

           The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that farmers and ranchers, including horse breeding farms and ranches, can sign up for disaster assistance programs, reestablished by the 2014 Farm Bill, beginning Tuesday, April 15.
            The 2014 Farm bill reauthorized the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP), the Livestock Forage Program (LFP), and the Emergency Livestock Assistance Program (ELAP), which had expired in 2011. ATTEND A 2014 USEF RULES FORUM

   
            Exhibitors at AMHA Morgan Regional shows are encouraged to attend a USEF/AMHA Rules Forum this show season. Proposed changes this year include: changing the judging criteria and protocol for the In-Hand division, to define the type of bits used in the Hunter Pleasure division, a better definition of appointments in the Western Pleasure division, among others.
            The first USEF/AMHA Rules Forum will take place Wednesday, April 9 at 10 a.m. at the Citrus Cup Regional Horse Show in Newberry, Florida. Check the prize list at regional shows for the time and location of other rules forums.

            The First Annual Desert Wine Horse Show Association Hunter/Jumper and National Breed Competition will be held May 28-June 1 at the Horseman’s Park in Las Vegas, Nevada.
