The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show is celebrating 70 years of history in 2015, with the American Saddlebred as the centerpiece of the show’s legacy. The show will be held March 18-22, offering $35,000 of prize money in many divisions. Steve Wheeler of Simpsonville, Kentucky, will judge the USEF-recognized event. This show is eligible for both Saddlebred Record and Saddlebred Select points.
It was out of a father’s love and a daughter’s passion for American Saddlebreds that the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show was born in 1945 at the Pin Oak stables of Jim S. Abercrombie to raise money to benefit the Houston community. Initial monies raised helped returning WWII veterans. But in 1947, the show made an initial gif of $30,000 for the planning and building of what is known today as the Texas Children’s Hospital. The 70th Pin Oak Charity is presented by Irish Day Farm and Haras Dos Cavaleiros to benefit Texas Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms inside of Texas Children’s Hospital, and Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance for their work in the Texas Children’s Cancer Center.
Special prizes and awards are being offered in 2015. Entries close March 2, 2015. Enter online at horseshowsonline.com, or visit pinoak.org for a complete prize list. Class sponsorships are still available.
