The Mid-America Saddlebred Horse Club recently participated in the 20th Annual Equifest All Breed Event, which was held at the Expocentre in Topeka, Kansas.
Following is an account of the event from Mid-America Saddlebred Horse Club's president, Kelly Stewart:
"It was an amazing event and it has been many, many years since Saddlebreds have participated. We received a very warm reception from the individuals running the event, as well as other breed representatives stalled by us. The public was very impressed with our breed as well. There were good conversations with them about what a Saddlebred can do. I even had one family who was admiring our horses ask, "I see your banner says Mid-America Saddlebred Club, but what breed is this?" They had never heard of a Saddlebred!
Despite wintry weather the first day, there were over 13,000 people who attended. The barns that participated, Touchstone Farms, Abby Road Farm and Burden Schilling Saddlebreds, truly had a great time. Our stalls were in an excellent location directly next to the show arena. We even won third place for our Hospitality Stall. It was such a positive experience for all our volunteers and our breed that we truly hope we're able to attend again next year. We owe a huge 'Thank You!' to individuals who donated, and for the trainers donating a weekend to promote our breed to a whole new group of people!"
Mid-America Saddlebred Horse Club would like to thank the following donors who helped sponsor the club's participation: Diana Ennis, Lee Allard, Jess and Marge Bain, Jan Harvey, Janet Thompson, Joe and Sally Jackson, Anthony Mead, Becky Yockey, Shirley Smith, Kristin Laufer, Sarah Krueger; from Touchstone Farm: Greg Haston and Michael Graham; from Burden Schilling Saddlebreds: Jan Burden and Don Schilling; and from Abby Road Farm: Alfredo Chavez and Lupe Chavez.
