The Kierson Kavaliers, Kierson Farm’s youth group, hosted a mini camp day for the kids of One Simple Wish on September 13, 2014. One Simple Wish is a national organization that helps grant wishes for children in foster care in America. Any child in foster care can submit a wish – big or small – and One Simple Wish reaches out to its benefactors to help grant that wish. One Simple Wish also helps provide clothes, personal care items and toys to help with the transition from home to home, provides a pop-up prom boutique, and helps to provide new experiences to those in the foster care system.
Many of the children that One Simple Wish helps had written in wishes to ride a horse for the first time. Dawn Puskas, whose daughter has ridden at Kierson, worked with Nikki Harrison to make those wishes come true. The Kierson Kavaliers ran camp stations for playing horse bingo, identifying parts of the horse, painting horse shoes, feeding horses treats and grooming the horses. The stations all went on while the One Simple Wish kids took their first riding lesson, with the help of Nikki and the Kavalier partners.
It was a great day that helped show how much of a wonderful gift horses are in life. As they left the barn for the day, many of the Kavaliers thanked their parents for the opportunity to take lessons, show and be around the horses. Kierson Farm would like to extend a big thank you to One Simple Wish giving them the opportunity to share their horses and their day with all of the participants.
