The American Hackney Horse Society has completed an AHHS Youth Medallion Showmanship in Hand instructional video. The video was filmed on July 9, 2018, and produced by Richfield Video, at the Shamrock Farm Road Pony Camp, in Smithfield, Kentucky. Participants at the Shamrock Farm Road Pony Camp prepared their ponies and exhibited their showmanship skills to guest judge Erin Peel. The exhibitors were placed and provided feedback on how to improve their showmanship skills. The video can be found on YouTube at https://youtu.be/lu2idbR9Y.
AHHS thanks R.H. Bennett; the Shamrock Farm Road Pony Camp participants, Julianne Wilson, Ashley Wilson, Erin Peel; and USEF for making this important educational video possible.
The video was funded by the Membership Incentive Grant from the United States Equestrian Federation. The AHHS Board of Directors, at its March 9, 2018, meeting, voted to allocate $500 of the grant monies to produce an educational and instructional video regarding the AHHS Youth Medallion Showmanship in Hand program and to allocate the reminder of the funds to support promotion and demonstrations of the Hackney breed, in different disciplines, at the Equine Affaire to which was held in Columbus, Ohio from April 12-14, 2018.
The receipt of the grant money from USEF and the allocation of funds was announced at the AHHS General Membership meeting on March 10, 2018. Members of the AHHS are encouraged to become USEF members, selecting the Hackney breed/discipline as primary on their USEF membership, as the funding for the USEF grant is dependent upon AHHS membership numbers in the USEF.
