National Horseman magazine is seeking a full-time Editor to copy write, edit and proof all magazine editorial content, as well as organize editorial features for the production department at our office in Scottsdale, AZ. National Horseman is a high quality, international equestrian magazine, featuring beautiful show horses, lifestyle, fashion and much more. National Horseman publishes 17 issues per year, ranging from 150-450 pages per issue.

Details

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Review all editorial content from writers prior to print
  • Correct errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency and style
  • Fact-check names, dates, events, titles and other information prior to print
  • Ensure ad copy and editorial conform to National Horseman’s house style
  • Facilitate editorial features and submit content to the production department
  • Research and write editorial pieces
  • Participate in brainstorming ideas for content
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver high-quality content and manage deadlines
  • Assist the managing editor with assignments as needed
  • Assist with post-issue data upkeep in company’s primary information software
  • Assist editing staff with sourcing information for specific editorial content

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • 2+ years’ experience in professional editing role
  • Exceptional editing and proofreading skills and proficiency in spelling and grammar
  • Excellent communication, both written and oral
  • Impeccable attention to detail and a meticulous approach to work
  • Ability to identify and communicate stories
  • Ability to maintain high-quality work and function independently while meeting tight deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities through problem-solving
  • Self-motivated, responsible for the integrity and accuracy of the work, and a can-do positive attitude
  • Horse knowledge strongly preferred
  • Excellent computer skills, intermediate to expert level understanding and use of Word and Excel
  • Experience in a high stress environment
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required
