National Horseman Publishing is seeking an experienced Magazine Production & Design Associate to contribute to the magazine production process, from design to pagination, as well as create visually stunning and cutting edge layouts for advertising and editorial. The Production Associate, is responsible for being part of a small team of designers to create every page of the magazine, in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

 

Established in 1865, National Horseman is a full color, glossy, coffee-table magazine, publishing 25 issues per year, ranging from 125-400 pages per issue.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Design cutting Advertising/Editorial layouts that aligns with the magazine’s brand and aesthetic
• Be part of the small team of designers and help delegate tasks in order to meet press deadlines
• Assist with paginating the magazine and upload files to the printer
• Balance multiple issues simultaneously
• Assist with organizing and maintaining the production folders on the network drive
• Help inspire your team with vision boards, new techniques and designs
• Work in a team environment under the direction of the Publisher and the Lead Designer

 

Skills and Abilities Required:

• 2+ year’s experience in professional design
• Able to quickly design ad layouts
• Demonstrate proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite CS5/6 especially Photoshop and In Design (DTP)
• A passionate and creative eye with impeccable design skills that reflect a contemporary modern style
• Ability to handle stress and deadline pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent attention to detail and an eye for typography
• Firm grasp of technology and print-production process
• Magazine or publication experience
• Outlining/Masking difficult objects, such as cutting out hair, in Photoshop in an effective and timely manner
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to be a positive team contributor
• Self-motivated, responsible for the integrity and accuracy of the work and a can-do positive attitude
• Able to work late if needed on press days
